CARES Act provides village $341,746

Funds are now in nine village accounts

Ada council closed 2020 with a special meeting on Dec. 30 for the purpose of transferring funds received from the federal CARES Act to nine specific village funds.

Those transfers are shows in the attachment at the bottom of this story. The village received $341,746 in CARES Funds.

School board offers supplemental football coaching contract to Tobin Smith

Dan Lee: "55 students are online and 30 students will return in person for the second semester"

Ada school board offered a supplemental contract to Tobin P. Smith to coach football during the 2021-22 school year. The board approved the issuance of the contract during the December board meeting held Thursday.

Smith of Urbana, is a secondary health and physical education teacher at Lima Senior and is a graduate of Wittenberg.

The varsity football coaching position became available at the resignation of Shawn Christopher this fall.

During the 2020 season Smith was associate head coach defensive coordinator at Lima Senior. From 2013 to 2019 he was head coach at Bellefontaine where his teams compiled a 46-27 record.

2021 village appropriations on council's agenda tonight

General fund shows 10 percent decrease from 2020

Ada council will tonight act the 2021 village appropriations that include general operating funds of $1,933,230.

Village fiscal officer, Patty Navin, said this is about a 10 percent decrease from 2020’s general fund. The decreased is related to the economy as it was affected by covid-19,” she told the Icon.

The appropriations also include $1,018,825 for special revenue funds and $175,000 for capital projects. Debt service totals $238,200 and enterprise funds total $3,247,650. The internal service fund totals $1,040.

Ada council preparing for 2021

Annual appropriations expected for passage on Dec. 21

As 2020 winds down, Ada council has set in motion several actions to prepare for 2021.

In recent council meetings, the village body approved the following affecting 2021 operations:

• Passage of 2021 annual appropriations – third and final reading scheduled for Dec. 15

• Preparing to advertise for bids and contract for supplies, services and equipment – including pebble quicklime, asphalt concrete pavement, gasoline and diesel fuel, lime sludge removal, sewage sludge removal

• Resolution authorizing the fiscal officer to issue payments for utility and payroll expenses

Ada principals express appreciation to staff, students, community for cooperation to remote learning transition

Ada’s school principals have expressed appreciation to the school staff, students and community for their cooperation in the transition from in-person learning to remote learning this fall.

Their remarks were made at the Nov. 19 Ada school board meeting.

The school made its transition to remote learning on Nov. 2. and it will continue at least until Dec. 4.

Council okays 2021 village wage scale

Offering conditional offer of employment to Jared Arnold as PT police officer

Last night Ada council approved a 2021 wage scale covering its employees.

The scales covers five salaried and nine hourly employees and is effective with the first full pay period beginning Jan. 3, 2021. It includes an pay increase of 1.5 percent.

The scale is attached at the bottom of this story.

Council also agreed to offer Jared Arnold a conditional offer of employment as a part-time police officer for the Village of Ada.
