School bus cameras see results

Ada Exempted Village Schools buses are now equipped with cameras to monitor the behaviour of other drivers. In November, Transportation and Maintenance Supervisor  Tim Garmon reported that in the first 18 days, 9 citations were issued for drivers running the red flashing lights that indicate traffic must stop. On January 4 he told the Icon that these violations have been greatly reduced.

Ada council organizes, takes oaths on January 4

ORGANIZATIONAL MEETING

Apollo Career Center report to Ada Schools

Apollo Career Center Superintendent Keith Horner attended the December 16 Ada Board of Education meeting and presented an update including the documents attached to this article.

There are currently 27 Ada students enrolled at the career center at 3325 Shawnee Rd. Lima, which serves eleven high schools. Ada students are participating in Automotive Technology, Building and Renovations, Career Exploration, Carpentry, Construction Equipment Technology, Cosmetology, Culinary Arts, Early Childhood Education, Fire/EMS Technology, Health Science, Sports Fitness and Exercise Science, and Welding and Fabrication programs. 

Transportation of suicide risk cases discussed by Ada Council

The subject of the longest discussion at the December 21 Ada Village Council meeting was brought to the floor during the public comments section by Adriane Thompson Bradshaw, Ohio Northern’s Vice President for Student Affairs. She asked if transportation methods in Ada of individuals who are suicidal was going to change.

Ada Liberty EMS Chief Tom Miller had notified her that in the new year law enforcement should transport such individuals. Council assured Bradshaw that any changes required their approval and further communication.

Board of Ed Dec. 16 meeting summary, documents

At the December 16 meeting of the Ada School Board, the five board members heard reports from Apollo Career Center Superintendent Keith Horner (to be covered in a separate article) and from Ada Schools staff members, as well as approved recommendations from the superintendent, Robin VanBuskirik.

A packet including the agenda, minutes of November meeting submitted for approval and other documents are attached.

H.S. Principal Dan Lee noted that weight room upgrades will be made over the holiday break.

Agenda for Dec. 21 Village Council

An agenda for the Village of Ada Regular Council Meeting of December 21 has been posted on the village website.

The meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m. in the Village Hall Council Chambers, 2nd floor, 115 W Buckeye Ave. and can be joined remotely at https://teams.live.com/meet/93261355725650.

The first agenda items are Pay Ordinances, Open Floor to Public, Mayor’s Comments.
