New hires, donations, vote on contracts
The July 29 meeting of the Board of Education of the Ada Exempted Village Schools began with an Executive session to consider employment and bargaining. Present at the meeting were board members Ted Griffith, Ron Fleming, Steve Ramey and board president Dr. Amy Mullins. Matt Gossman was absent.
SPECIAL REPORTS
Dr. Dan Lee, High School and Middle School Principal, reported on:
- Sports results including participants in the Ohio state track meet.
- 500 college credits earned by students this year.
- Hiring of Bethany Kaufmann, 7th grade ELA (English Language Arts) teacher, Kathryn Bruskotter, 4th grade math teacher, Aaron Acheson STEM teacher and Carter Bevins, band/instrumental music teacher—who would begin work that evening with band camp.
Jeremy Clark, the new elementary school principal, reported on meeting with staff in May and his interest in meeting community leaders.
TREASURER
Treasurer Kim Light presented a report including Budget Modifications for Fiscal Year 2022 through June 29. She noted that to received Federal grant funds the money must be spent to be reimbursed.

- Hardin Community Foundation donation of $1,000 for books and $750 for a Storybook Walk
- Stambaugh Band, Athletic and Library Trust donations of $29,256

- Waterson Family Foundation donation to Principal Fund of $10,000
- 1971 Football team donation of $5,350
- Superior Credit Union donation of $5,000 for High Jump Mat
SUPERINTENDENT’S RECOMMENDATIONS
Superintendent Robin VanBuskirk made recommendations A-U including approving A. negotiated agreements with the Ada Classified Association and B. negotiated agreements with the Ada Education Association.
These agreements were approved 3-1. Board member Ted Griffith voted against the agreements. During the discussion period, he said that he was proud of Ada teacher compensation and that it was out of line, being $6-7K more per teacher than the 16 nearest districts and $3K more per teacher than Allen East. No other comments were made by board members.
The remaining items C-W were approved unanimously. (See attached documents for details.)
