Obituary for Merit Michael Conley, Jr.

Merit Michael Conley, Jr., age 64, of McGuffey, passed away on November 12, 2024 at his sister’s residence in Ada. 

Michael was born on January 5, 1960 to the late Merit and Sada (Evans) Conley, Sr. He was formerly married to the late Cathy Preston Petersen. 

He is survived by his daughter, Jordan (Russell) Girdler of Findlay; granddaughter, Isabelle; two brothers: Jeff (Karen) Conley and Orville (Carla) Conley; five sisters: Doris Neilson, Donna (Roger) Castle, Sandra Bailey, Peggy Baker and Terry (Grover) VanHoose; and special friends: Duane Krummrey, Drake Krummrey and Wesley Krummrey. 

Preceding him in death is his grandson, Rusty.

ONU women's soccer wins OAC Championship

ADA __ The Ohio Northern women's soccer team won the program's sixth OAC Tournament Championship with a 3-2 victory over John Carroll on a beautiful Saturday afternoon.

Venue: Kerscher Stadium — Ada, Ohio.

John Carroll scored first in the 11th minute to go up 1-0 early in the game.

June Lucille (Robinson) Webb was a homemaker

June Lucille (Robinson) Webb, age 90, of Dola, went home to be in the arms of her Lord at Bridge Hospice Care Center at Blanchard Valley Hospital, Findlay, on Saturday, November 9, 2024, surrounded by her family. 

​She was born on June 1, 1934 in New Smyrna Beach, Florida to the late Estle and Priscilla (Ramey) Robinson. June married Clifford R. Webb and he preceded her in death.   

Demolition funding awarded for Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity house

The Ohio Department of Development has announced a November 2024 round of 61 demolition and site revitalization awards including 14 sites in Hardin County. The site at 821 South Gilbert Street, Ada is the Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity house which was damaged by freezing pipes and has been gutted in preparation for demolition.

Three residential properties in Alger have been awarded demolition funding.

BVHS acquires linear accelerator for cancer treatment

Blanchard Valley Health System (BVHS) has acquired a TrueBeam linear accelerator system from Varian Medical Systems, improving treatment options for patients undergoing radiation therapy at The Armes Family Cancer Care Center (AFCCC), a division of the health system.

Radiation therapy treatments are designed to damage cancer cells to prevent them from dividing, without damaging other tissue. The team providing this treatment includes radiation oncologists, radiation therapists, nurses, dosimetrists, and physicists.

Recap of November 5 Ada Council meeting

The Ada Icon attended the November 5 meeting of the Ada Council via Zoom and experienced the Village’s new 360-degree camera and microphone technology that improves the viewer’s ability to see and hear all individuals in the meeting. The Zoom link is shared HERE.

The meeting included final approval of the contract including new, lower refuse collection rates, hiring part-time police officer Justin R. Jackson, a report on 2024 Community Pool profits and the awarding of a grant for the demolition of a fraternity house at Gilbert St. and Lima Ave. The meeting packet is on the Village website HERE.

Dustin Ray Bolen arrested and charged with murder

Media Release

On 11/07/2024 the Hardin County Sheriff’s Office has arrested Dustin Ray Bolen on indictment in connection to the investigation of a missing McGuffey man, Michael Bolen. Dustin Ray Bolen has been charged with the following: Murder, tampering with evidence, Gross Abuse of a Corpse, having weapons under disability, trafficking in fentanyl, theft from a person in a protected class, and posessing criminal tools. Dustin Ray Bolen is currently being housed at the Multi County Correctional Facility awaiting arraignment on the listed charges.

Harold P. Music was a U.S. Navy Veteran

Harold P. Music, age 85, of Ada, passed away at Lima Memorial Health System on Wednesday, November 6, 2024.  

He was born on September 26, 1939 in Floyd County, Kentucky to Wayne and Virginia (Harmon) Music.  On February 20, 1965 Harold married Sharon Wells and she survives in Ada. 

Harold is also survived by his two sons: Todd (Lisa) Music of Richwood and Mark Music of Ada; three grandchildren: Kelsey Walczak Music, Kendal Walczak Music and Cooper Walczak Music; three sisters: Janice Hopson of Tennessee, Pam (Dennis) Rudasill of Ada and Kathy (Rick) Osborn of Kenton; and several nieces and nephews.
