Pleasant Township awarded safety sign grant by ODOT

Sam Norris, Pleasant Township trustee in Hardin County, successfully navigated the ODOT process and secured funds through the township safety sign grant program.

Sam Norris was appointed a trustee in Pleasant Township, Hardin County, on Jan. 1, 2024. He logged an early win by securing approximately $1,900 from ODOT's township safety sign grant program.

Ada boys basketball nips Gophers in opener

RIDGEWAY – The Ada High School boys basketball team edged Hardin County rival Ridgemont 45-44 in the closing seconds to win a close season opener Wednesday night, November 27.

The tight non-league victory started the Bulldog campaign 1-0. The NWCC favorite Gophers begin 0-1.

Ridgemont led 44-43 in the waning seconds as Ada worked for a final shot.

Junior Zack Zimmerman was fouled while shooting a three-pointer, and he canned the first two foul shots to provide the slim margin of victory.

On the decisive play, one official apparently whistled Ada for double dribble, while the other referee called a foul which superseded the violation.

Smoke on the Water: Lung cancer screening guidelines

The English rock band Deep Purple recorded Smoke on the Water in December of 1971. The recording was based on true events from the fire at the Montreux Casino in Switzerland where the band was recording an album. The song was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2017.

Hard-fought BVC opener ends in loss for Ada girls basketball

LEIPSIC __ The Ada High School girls basketball team tipped off its first Blanchard Valley Conference season with a hard-fought 42-33 loss at league foe Leipsic Tuesday night.

Ada led 16-15 at halftime after outscoring the Vikings 12-6 in the second stanza. 

Yet Leipsic turned the tables in the third period behind a 14-6 quarter that provided a 29-22 lead. The hosts also took the final stanza 13-11 to win by nine.

Three Madame Traster scholarships awarded for June 2025 travel

Ada International Travel Group

In June 2025 over 60 Ada students and parents will travel to Germany, Poland, Czech Republic, Slovakia, and Hungary on an educational trip. Three of the student travelers were awarded the Madame Traster Memorial Scholarship to help with expenses. Those students are Allison Stockert, Avery Conner and Aubrey Pope. 

Mrs. Patricia Traster taught French at Ada High School for 28 years before retiring in 2007. One of her legacies was leading trips to France and eventually to other parts of Europe with her students and their families. 

After passing in 2015, her family established a scholarship to assist Ada students who desired to travel internationally. Former student and current Ada High School teacher Kristin Salyer began leading trips to Europe in 2016 after being inspired by Mrs. Traster.

Governance and Plan of Operations for both Electricity and Natural Gas Aggregation Public Meeting will be held in Council Chambers at 4:30PM - 5:00PM, 115 W. Buckeye Ave.

Paul David Patton was a Special Olympics competitor

Paul David Patton, age 57, of Kenton, was born on October 26, 1967, Paul R. and Judith Patton.  He passed away on November 26, 2024 at Lost Creek Care Center, Lima.  

David is survived by his two siblings: Lisa (Alan) Long of Kenton, and Gregory Patton of Elida. He is the beloved uncle to Kyle, Ashley, Emily and Shane. He is preceded in death by his father and his long-term girlfriend, Phoebe Holloway. David was a great son, brother, and friend to all who knew him. He was an innocent, gentle soul who faced all adversity with a grace that most men cannot aspire. David never knew a stranger and he could start a conversation with a, “Hey, can I ask you a question?”.    

About black bears in Ohio

Black bears in Hardin County? A recent Facebook post by Ada resident Noah Griffin suggests damage by a black bear. No sightings have been reported by ODNR in the past.

Black bears are a state endangered species that occurs in forested habitats throughout the eastern half of Ohio. Black bear sightings in Ohio have been increasing since the Division of Wildlife began tracking sightings in 1993.
