Ada sophomores have an opportunity for a one-day career development experience on Tuesday, Feb. 25. Sophomores can be excused from classes on Feb. 25 to shadow a professional in their chosen career path.
All sophomores are required to write a report and do a presentation on a particular career to a teacher and school administrator. Ideally, this report is written based off shadowing a professional on their job site.
The goal of this program is to encourage sophomores to begin the process of determining their career path, which they will further explore and adjust in their junior and senior years.
Ada will host the 14th annual Hardin County Chamber and Business Alliance dinner meeting and awards presentation on Thursday, Feb. 27.
The event will be from 6 to 8:30 p.m. in the McIntosh Center ballroom on the ONU campus. The evening will include the awards program, dinner, introduction of the board of directors and 2020 goals, and finish with a business meeting.
New to this year’s event will be a cocktail hour preceding the dinner, from 5 to 6 p.m. at The Inn at ONU. Details are included via registration, but please note, an additional fee will be charged for this event.
U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown’s (D-OH) staff traveled to Kenton on Jan. 29 to meet with Ohio veterans.
Veterans from Hardin County attended the roundtable and Brown’s office organized the roundtable with the Hardin County Veterans Service Office. Brown’s office will take the veterans’ priorities back to Washington, where the Senator sits on the Senate Veterans’ Affairs Committee.
Brown is the longest-serving U.S. Senator from Ohio on the Senate Committee on Veterans’ Affairs.
Allen County Public Health is closely monitoring this situation and is working with the Ohio Department of Health as well as other state and local public health partners and CDC to respond to this emerging public health threat. The goal of the ongoing U.S. public health response is to contain this outbreak and prevent sustained spread of 2019-nCoV in this country. The risk for getting coronavirus is low unless you have traveled to China within the previous 14 days of becoming ill, or have been around someone ill with the virus.

Americans may be getting less sleep than they have in previous years, and it might be because of smartphones.
Lack of sleep isn't just linked to chronic conditions like type 2 diabetes and heart disease. It's also tied to poor academic performance among children, as well as motor vehicle crashes.
Recommended Sleep Times
The recommended amount of sleep to get each night varies with age. The National Sleep Foundation recommends the following number of hours of sleep each night:

This story is from 1993 – Mention Carolyn Boutwell and chances are people will think of athletics and girls’ softball.
The long-time girls’ softball mentor has coached her current team of 11-12-year-olds to a 10-1 record with one game remaining this season.
A win would seal another Northwest Girls’ League championship for Ada. Last year’s team, undefeated in the league, went on to win the tournament to finished with a 13-0 season record.

It’s that time of year when we dig out snow shovels out of storage and exchange our shorts for snowsuits. The frigid temperatures and snow-filled driveways can make this season one of the toughest on our backs and achy joints.
When shoveling those snowy driveways and sidewalks this winter, don’t forget to wear well-supported shoes with good traction to reduce the risk of a fall. Also, when lifting heavy snow, don’t forget to bend your knees and keep your back straight. If you must turn, pivot with your feet and do not twist your back.
