Weekend doctor: Seeing a psychiatrist

By Christian Steiner, MD
Psychiatric Center of Northwest Ohio
“Who sees a psychiatrist anyway?” This is a common question I have been asked by many different people outside of my office. Many times, this question is brought up to me in social situations where the topic of mental health arises in passing. I often forget that psychiatry has a stigma as every day I encounter people from all walks of life who are seeking professional help for an array of different issues.

ONU student “leaping” into college life at age 5

Her driver’s license lists Feb. 29 as her date of birth, but next year when she has it renewed, she’ll need to do it on March 1.  (The DMV told her that she wouldn’t have been born yet on Feb. 28).

Nina Buchan is a sophomore psychology major at Ohio Northern University.  She lives on campus, attends classes by herself and manages to keep up with her studies.

Not unusual, except that according to official records, Nina is just 5 years old.

As far as this publication can determine, Buchan is the only ONU student and, possibly the only Ada resident, with a Feb. 29 birthday.

As we look forward to this extra Leap Year day on Saturday, Buchan expects a rather quiet birthday celebration. A little more hoopla may be in order when you consider that she has a birthday just once every four years!

Dr. Seuss month at the public library

Ada Public Library invites patrons to take the Dr. Seuss Read Challenge during March. The challenge begins as the library celebrates the famous author's birthday on Monday, March 2.

Visit the library, complete a Dr. Seuss activity sheet and, who knows what prizes you may win.

Russian student interested in working for international organization

"One that is involved in civic activities to do good for the world"

Anna Lebedeva
Your nationality: Russian
Year at ONU: Senior
Major at ONU: Political Science

Interviewed by Elizaveta Dyachuk

Icon: How did you hear about ONU?
Anna:
I’d had no idea that I would study at ONU before the YEAR Program (Year of Exchange in America for Russians), I am a participant of, announced the university I would go to. ONU is a small local university, that’s why even when I got the results, I still had no clue where I would go to. So, I googled it and came across ONU social media that surprised me in a good way with the activity there.
