The Spencerville at Ada girls basketball game was cancelled Thursday and has been re-scheduled for Monday, February 10. No JV game, with varsity tip-off at 6 p.m.

A 2014 Ada High School graduate recently returned to the high school to teach current students about a near-extinct species and even allowed them to “babysit” some eggs.
Ada alum Justin England is a fisheries technician employed by Midwest Biodiversity Institute, based in Columbus, Ohio. On a typical day he catches, weighs, measures and collects data on Ohio’s fish. “We monitor. We’re there to collect data,” said England.
England holds two associate degrees; one in agribusiness management from University of Northwestern Ohio (UNOH) and another in fisheries resource management from southeast Ohio’s Hocking College.

The gray hues of winter can cause people to suffer from SAD (seasonal affective disorder), which is more than just a case of the winter blues.
“This is a very real condition, and the seriousness to sufferers is undeniable,” said Hannah Stokes, assistant professor of psychology at Ohio Northern University.
“This is a specifier for major depression disorders, and the farther a person lives from the equator, the more likely is the occurrence of SAD.”
Beatitudes community center is partnering with ONU’s HealthWise Pharmacy to offer blood pressure checks to patrons tomorrow, Friday, Feb. 7, between 11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.
These checks are part of a partnership offering free health screenings to residents in the community, according to Deb Curlis of Beatitudes, and Dr. Clay Miller of HealthWise.
The screenings will be every Friday at Beatitudes through May, between 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The partnership will also provide free vitamins to participants.

2019 zoning permits listed

Ada’s 2019 zoning permits totaled an estimated value of $727,631, according to the summary presented to Ada council on Feb. 4 by Michael Harnishfeger, zoning inspector.
Last year saw 41 permits issued, down from 56 in 2018. The report reveals two new single-family homes constructed and several residential additions in 2019.
“The greatest requests for permits dealt with fences and sheds,” said Harnishfeger. “And, in 2019 we had progress on the First United Methodist Church parking lot with the demolition of two neighborhood house.”

The Lima YMCA will be the host site for the Ohio High School Athletic Association’s D-II Section 5 Sectional meet from 11 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 8.
There will be 14 teams with a total of 237 swimmers from the following schools:
Ada, Celina, Elida, Fostoria, Kenton, Lima Bath, Lima Central Catholic, Lima Shawnee, Marion Local, Minster, New Bremen, Ridgemont, St. Henry and St. Marys Memorial.
