"Cocktail Hour: The Show" comes to Freed stage Jan. 30-31

Ohio Northern University’s Department of Theatre Arts presents New York City’s Ballets with a Twist performing "Cocktail Hour: The Show." 

Performances are at The Freed Center for the Performing Arts at 7:30 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 30, and 2 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 31.

The performance is part of the conclusion of a week-long residency, ONU dance students will open the engagement with an excerpt from the company's repertory.

The Ohio Northern University Technology and Engineering Education Collegiate Association (TEECA) will host the ONU Polar Bear Classic VEX Robotics Competition in the ONU Sports Center on Friday, Jan. 8, at 10 a.m.

The event is sponsored by the ONU Department of Technological Studies.

More than 100 high school and middle school students, comprising approximately 30 teams from Ohio and one team from Michigan, are expected to compete for a chance to advance to the state competition in Marion, Ohio on March 4-5.

Ada Icon owner stepping down as director of Bluffton chamber

After eight years as director of the Bluffton Area Chamber of Commerce, Fred Steiner, owner of the Ada Icon, is stepping down and that position is now open, according to Phil Zimmerly, Bluffton chamber board president.

Steiner said that while he enjoys his involvement with the chamber, the Ada and Bluffton Icons, two online websites he owns, continued to grow and take more of his time.

The Bluffton chamber launched several new programs in the past eight years. It spearheaded a new Christmas downtown garland project now used by 45 businesses.

ONU football team ranked 19th in nation in final 2015 DIII poll

The Ohio Northern football team finished the 2015 season ranked No. 19 in the final D3Football.com poll.

The Polar Bears (9-3 overall, 7-2 Ohio Athletic Conference) received 144 points in the voting after receiving 33 points in the 11th and final regular season poll.

Mount Union won the national title and was ranked first with 625 points and all 25 first place votes, national runner-up St. Thomas (Minn.) was second with 599 points and Linfield (Ore.) was third with 562 points.

The Polar Bears have now been mentioned in the D3football.com poll in 14 of the last 17 years.

ONU Polar Bear Classic robotics competition on Friday

The robots are coming to Ada.

It’s the ONU Polar Bear Classic,  all-day regional VEX Robotics Competition event in the ONU Sport Center/King Horn on Friday, Jan. 8.

The competition is open to middle and high school teams.  When the competition is completed four teams will advance to a state event.

The ONU classic will host teams from Bluffton High School, Tri-Rivers Career Center, Kenton Middle School, Brecksville-Broadview Heights, Highland Heights and Team Comet Robotics Club. Each of these schools and clubs will enter several teams in the competition.
