ONU Polar Bear Classic robotics competition on Friday
The robots are coming to Ada.
It’s the ONU Polar Bear Classic, all-day regional VEX Robotics Competition event in the ONU Sport Center/King Horn on Friday, Jan. 8.
The competition is open to middle and high school teams. When the competition is completed four teams will advance to a state event.
The ONU classic will host teams from Bluffton High School, Tri-Rivers Career Center, Kenton Middle School, Brecksville-Broadview Heights, Highland Heights and Team Comet Robotics Club. Each of these schools and clubs will enter several teams in the competition.
Here how the competition works:
Teams of students design and build a robot to play against other teams in a game-based engineering challenge.
Classroom STEM concepts are put to the test on the playing field. This year's game is Nothing But Net, played on a 12-foot by 12-foot square.
Two alliances – one “red” and one “blue” – composed of two teams each, compete in matches of a 15-second autonomous period followed by 1 minute and 45 seconds of driver-controlled play.
The object is to score more points than the opponent. Points are achieved by scoring balls and bonus balls in each team’s low and high goals, and by elevating robots in a climbing zone.
