While some people may look forward to snow covered trees and lawns, many of us dread icy sidewalks once the temperatures sink lower and lower.

Ada Codified Ordinance 521.06 does require walks to be kept free from snow and ice, by either the owner or the occupant of the property.

Many people start applying rock salt at the first sign of precipitation and cold temperatures. Rock salt, which is primarily sodium chloride, tends to be on the less expensive side of deicers.

However, rock salt can harm pets, plants, grass, and trees. Rock salt can also cause the sidewalks to begin breaking down, depending on the composition of the concrete used during construction.

Church of Christ hosts community candlelight service Dec. 17

Ada Church of Christ will host a community candlelight service on Saturday, Dec. 17. Cornerstone Gospel Quartet and Peggy Richardson will sing. The evening will begin with light refreshments at 6 p.m. followed by the service at 7 p.m. which will conclude with the singing of "Silent Night."

The Icon's sports calendar lists games by the month. To view December's schedules CLICK HERE or place your curser over the "Calendar" listing on the black scroll bar at the top of the home page.

48 construction projects okayed by zoning board in 2016

Some as small as fences, one as large as $4 million

How much construction has there been in Ada this year?

The zoning board has approved 48 projects, some as small as fences, one as large as the $4 million solar array on campus.

Three new houses have been built (two of them in the 300 block of West Lima Avenue, pictured) and a duplex. An addition to the east side of Associated Plastics was valued at a quarter million dollars.

Overall, the educational and industrial projects won out over new residences.

Six angels appear to be dancing around a small pine tree at the Glenn Whitten home at the corner of Conley and Grand. The Whittens have a clever idea.
