First United Methodist live nativity Sunday night

Despite the chill in the weather there will be a Live Nativity on Sunday, Dec. 18, at Ada First United Methodist Church, 301 N. Main St. starting at 6:30 p.m. It will reset every half hour. Come see this depiction of our Lord's birth.

It was a night of Christmas music

The Ada Schools winter concert featured many bands and choirs on Monday evening in the school auditorium. It was SRO in the auditorium with the overflow crowd of family and friends waiting in the cafeteria until their student was on stage.

Here, the fifth grade band leads off the concert with "Old King Wenceslas," "Jolly Old St. Nicholas," and "Jingle Bells."

The 5th, 6th, 7/8th and High School Bands performed, as well as 6th, 7/8th, Concert Choir, and Varsity Singers.

Girls' basketball: Ada girls felled by Panthers

Haley Wyss leads Ada with 13 points

PAULDING - The Ada girls basketball team tipped off the road portion of its Northwest Conference slate with a 64-49 defeat at Paulding on a frigid Thursday night.

The Lady Bulldogs fell to 1-3 and 0-2 in league play following their third consecutive loss. Meanwhile, the Panthers improved to 1-5 overall and 1-0 in the NWC with their first victory.

"We couldn't stop their big girls," said third-year Ada head coach Bill Taflinger. Brianna Townley of Paulding led all players with 21 points and 10 rebounds.

The Panthers outscored Ada by a combined total of 35-19 in the second and fourth periods to decide the outcome.

Winter on the way and the weather outside could be frightful

Winter is on the way. Here's a weather update for Friday night, Dec. 16, from various weather internet sites:

For northwestern Ohio snow is in the forecast tonight and mixed with or changing to sleet and freezing rain. Anticipated 1 to 3 inches of snow with minor ice. Periods of snow tonight will change to a wintry mix overnight.

Low temperature anticipated at 20 degrees, with winds from the south southeast at 10 to 20 miles per hour. Chance of precipitation is 90 percent.

Liberty National's United Way pledge

Ron Zimmerly, President and CEO of Liberty National Bank, presented a check to Darlene Foreman, Executive Director of the United Way of Hardin County, in the amount of $6,541.25 for 2017 pledges. The employees’ pledges have increased overall by 10% from the previous year. This week the United Way of Hardin County had reached 93 percent of its goal of $220,000. The retail division accounted for more than half of the $203,000 raised so far. The campaign continues.

Hardin’s 2016 growing season rainfall below 10-year average

The weather has taken a change in course lately since the last Hardin County agriculture and natural resources update.  

Looking back on the growing season from April 15 through Oct. 15, the average rainfall was 21.21 inches. This is 2.43 inches below the 10-year average growing season precipitation, and 3.49 less inches of rain than last year’s growing season.  

A wide range of 13.21 inches in rainfall accumulation from high to low across the county is an indication of the variability in rainfall throughout Hardin County in 2016.
