Men's basketball: Bruns' buzzer shot gives ONU the win

93-91 victory over Joh Carroll

ADA — Sophomore Ryan Bruns' (Chickasaw/Marion Local) layup with one second remaining helped lift the Ohio Northern men's basketball team to a 93-91 victory over John Carroll Saturday afternoon at the ONU Sports Center.

With the victory, the Polar Bears improve to 4-4 overall and 3-1 in the Ohio Athletic Conference, while the Blue Streaks fall to 3-5, 2-2.

Junior Nate Burger (Dayton/Alter) led the way offensively for Northern, as he poured in career-best 29 points and went 7-of-9 from the 3-point line.

Women's basketball: Saturday win is 9th in a row for ONU

Britt Lauck nails 21 in win

ADA — Senior Britt Lauck (Lima/Shawnee) tied a career-high with 21 points as the No. 17-ranked Ohio Northern women's basketball team defeated John Carroll 79-59.

The Polar Bears remain undefeated and improve to 9-0 overall and 4-0 in the Ohio Athletic Conference, while the Blue Streaks drop to 3-5, 1-3.

Lauck scored a game-high 21 points, while sophomore Jenna Dirksen (Beavercreek/Carroll) added 13 points and a game-high three steals.

Junior Amy Bullimore (Morrow/Little Miami) added points and a team-best nine rebounds, while freshman Emily Mescher (Maria Stein/Marion Local) chipped in a career-best 11 points.

The live nativity planned Sunday evening at First United Methodist Church, Ada, is cancelled due to the weather.

 

 

Dec. 21 community meeting in Alger

Discussion centers on $500,000 state grant

There will be a community meeting in Alger for residents to discuss how best to use a state grant of $500,000 for such things as:
• Parks and playground equipment
• Sidewalks
• Storm sewers
• Water hydrants
• Roads, curbs and gutters
• or other infrastructure projects.

The meeting will be held at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 21, in the village hall, 207 Angle St. with Mark Doll, county regional planning director, and Whitaker Wright of Community Development Associates.

A survey was taken in Alger last fall which determined that Alger qualified for a grant up to $500,000 since most residents report low to moderate incomes.

University wraps up gifts for 170 area children this Christmas

Toys and clothing distributed by Helping Hands Ministry, Kenton

Since 1990, members of the Ohio Northern University Support Staff Association have helped give names of area children in need to ONU staff, faculty and organizations.

This year the University helped 170 children.

The toys and clothing are distributed by Helping Hands Outreach Ministries in Kenton.
