Thomas "Skip" Bassitt graduated from Beaverdam High School

Thomas "Skip" Edgar Bassitt, 72, of Lecanto, Fla., and formerly of Bluffton died Oct. 21, 2015, at his residence. 

Thomas was born Dec. 4, 1942, in Bluffton to the late Loren "Bill" and Margaret "Peg" (McGuire) Bassitt.  On Aug. 28, 1999, he married Sharen Fuller Bassitt and she survives.

Thomas grew up in Beaverdam and graduated from Beaverdam High School in 1960.  He served in the United States Army from 1960-1963, serving part of his term in Germany.

Constance Centers, 1938-2015

Constance L. Centers, 77, died on Friday, Oct. 16, 2015, at 3:42 a.m. at Hospice of Dayton.

She was born on April 15, 1938, in Ashland, Kentucky to Russell E. and Darlene (Clevenger) Ellenberg who preceded her in death. On April 4, 1986, she married Phillip W. Centers and he survives in Dayton.

Constance was a homemaker. She was a member of the Washington Heights Baptist Church of Kettering. Ohio

She is also survived by two daughters: Jill (Jeff) Risner of Aurora and Joan (Jim) McBride of Ada; and six grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Timothy Rice and several brothers and sisters.

William "Chub" McKinley was a 1956 graduate of McGuffey High School

William Eugene McKinley, known by most as "Chub," 76, died on Sunday, Oct. 11, 2015.

Chub was born on Dec. 9, 1938, to the late William Irvin and Mary Evon (Woolley) McKinley in Kenton, Ohio. He married Ann Kaylor and shared his life with her for 56 wonderful years and she survives in Ada.

He graduated from McGuffey High School in 1956. Chub retired from tool making at Ford Motor Company after 36 years. Chub was a member of County Line Church of the Brethren for 31 years, where he served as a Deacon. 

Doug Brown was a former Ada business owner

E. Douglas Brown, 72, died at his home on Tuesday, Oct. 13, 2015 at 4:22 a.m..

Doug was born on Nov. 14, 1942, in Bonanza, Kentucky, to Estel and Clara (Baldridge) Brown who preceded him in death. On Dec. 17, 1960, he married Joyce Baker and she survives in Ada.

Doug retired from Star Gas in Kenton, where he was a manager. He formerly owned several local businesses, including the former J&M Dairy Dip and Norada Lanes Bowling Alley of Ada.

He was a member of the Only Believe Ministries in Botkins. 

Charles T. Downer was a U.S. Navy veteran

Charles T. Downer, 86, died on Thursday, Oct. 8, 2015, at 3:20 a.m. at Lost Creek Care Center of Lima.

He was born on April 3, 1929, in Columbus, Ohio, to John and Elizabeth (Dempsey) Downer who preceded him in death. He married Linda Allen from Kenton on Aug. 16, 1974, and she preceded him in death.

Charles was a U.S. Navy veteran who served as a CB and he retired from Insurance Sales, where he worked in management and training.

ONU athletic legend Arden "Stretch" Roberson funeral service on Thursday

Arden E. “Stretch” Roberson, 89, died on Saturday, Oct. 3, 2015 at 6:15 PM at Richland Manor Nursing Home in Bluffton, Ohio.

He was born on Nov. 9, 1925 in Bettsville, Ohio, to Clinton and Garland (Walter) Roberson who preceded him in death. On Aug. 7, 1949 he married Alice Frances “Fran” Detrick and she preceded him in death on Jan. 14, 2000.

Stretch was a football coach and college professor at Ohio Northern University. He started the football program at Huron High School in 1949. From 1950-1955, he went to Mentor, Ohio, and coached football, basketball and track with Lee J. Tressel.
