Hardin County Democrats host annual Presidents' Day luncheon

The Hardin County Democratic Party will host its annual Presidents Day Luncheon from noon-2:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 18 at the Kenton Elks Lodge, 157 E. Franklin St., Kenton.

Candidates scheduled to speak include Ohio Supreme Court Justice Michael Donnelly and a representative from Ohioans to Stop Executions. Local Democratic candidates will also be present.

The luncheon meal will include ham, chicken, salad, parsley potatoes, maple-glazed carrots, assorted desserts and drinks.

Robert A. Lerch, Ph.D., head of lab and site management and business operations at Pfizer Vaccine Research and Development, will present the Forum “Vaccine Development During a Pandemic,” at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 31 in Yoder Recital Hall on the campus of Bluffton University

As a member of the Pfizer team that developed the COVID mRNA vaccine, Lerch will discuss his research as a practice of Christian service.

This event is free and open to the public.

Free movie event hosted by Beatitudes at Ada Theatre

The Beatitudes Community Center is hosting a free family fun film on Saturday, February 11. The event, featuring the film Sing 2, is open to the public.

Snacks will be provided including popcorn, water and a treat bag. Organizers note that parking will be available at Hay's Insurance as well as at The Depot and along Main Street.

Released in 2021, Sing 2 is an animated film with animal characters who have been given three weeks to stage a lavish Las Vegas-style show and to convince the reclusive rock and roller Clay Calloway to be the featured star.

Going Nuts: Open House at Litzenberg Woods

FINDLAY--Mast producing trees like walnut and hickory, were important to the
McKinnis family and their neighbors. Not only was the wood used in many of their
structures, the nuts of the black walnut, shagbark hickory, shellbark hickory, and
butternut hickory were used in baking and making ink. Join Mrs. Boylan, a neighbor
of the McKinnis family, in the kitchen as she shares samples of her walnut cookies
and hickory nut bread to all who stop by.

St. Mark Lutheran community meal on February 1

St. Mark Lutheran will be serving its free Community Meal from 5:00-6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, February 1. (Note: this is a new date. The event was rescheduled due to the January 25 winter storm warning.)

The meal is free and open to the public. The menu consists of spaghetti with meat balls, green beans, garlic bread, fruit and a cookie.  

The church is located at the corner of Lincoln and Johnson St. in Ada.  You may dine in, carry out or drive up for curbside service. Organizers note, "Last month we served over 100 meals so don't be late. See you there."

Educators invited to Project WILD Workshop

FINDLAY, Ohio–Educators of pre-kindergarten through high school students are invited to attend a free Project WILD workshop in northwest Ohio on Friday, Feb. 10, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Division of Wildlife. The workshop focuses on supplemental curriculums that teach wildlife-related conservation concepts using everyday subjects such as math, science, and social studies. Project WILD and Aquatic WILD (K-12) guidebooks are provided to all participants.
