Hardin County Fair cheer competition 2023 announced

The Hardin County Agricultural Society is hosting a cheerleading competition at the Hardin County Fair on Sunday, September 10, 2023 at 12:30 p.m.

The competition is for school squads, recreation squads, local gyms, USASF teams, and individuals/duos. The competition will have tumbling & non-tumbling and stunting & non-stunting divisions in the following categories:

Poultry Banquet is March 25

Reservation deadline is March 11

HARDIN COUNTY–The 2023 Hardin County Poultry Banquet will be held Saturday, March 25 at the Family Center of the Kenton Christian & Missionary Alliance Church located at 15436 State  Route 309 in Kenton, Ohio. 

Chicken will be provided as the main course. Each family attending is asked to bring their most requested, best-tasting side dish and dessert to share.There will be no charge for the evening, but reservations are necessary. Doors open at 5:00 p.m., with dinner at 6:00 p.m. Table service will be provided. 

Hardin SWCD Pond Fish Sale

The Hardin Soil and Water Conservation District is taking orders for its annual pond fish sale. The following fingerling species are available:  Largemouth Bass; Bluegill; Hybrid Bluegill; Channel Catfish; White Amur; Redear Sunfish; Fathead Minnows.  Please note that the fish are sold individually.

The deadline for orders is 4:00 p.m., Friday, March 31, 2023.  All orders must be picked up at 2:30 p.m., on Thursday, April 6. Customers will need to provide enough containers to hold the purchased fish. Five-gallon buckets work well. Each container must have an unscented poly liner (trash bag) filled with one-third customer pond water to pick up the fish at the Hardin Soil and Water Conservation District Office.

2023 Norada Lanes Golf Scramble date is May 6

Norada Lanes has announced registration information for the 2023 annual Golf Outing at Colonial Golfers Club, 10985 Harding Hwy, Harrod:

  • May 6
  • 9:00 a.m. start time 
  • 4 person scramble
  • $200/team

Prize money will be based on the number of entries. Event includes 50/50 drawings and raffle giveaways.

Powder Buff provides Junior Prom fundraising twist

At 6:30 p.m. on  Friday, March 10, the Ada High School junior class will host Powder Buff in the Varsity Gym.

A twist on Powder Puff football, it will feature a multi-game volleyball competion:

  • Freshman vs. Junior boys
  • Sophomor vs. Senior boys
  • Consolation game
  • Championship game

Admission is $2. There will also be a bake sale.

Strittmatter to speak on Hall of Fame pitcher from Alger

Dr. David Strittmatter, ONU Assistant Professor of History will present The Ray Brown Project at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 5 in the Allen County Museum’s Folsom Auditorium. 

Ray Brown (1908-65) was born in Alger in Hardin County. He pitched for the legendary Homestead Grays of the Negro Leagues and was posthumously inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown in 2006.  He died in the 1960s and is buried in Dayton, Ohio.
