United Way of Hardin County seeks items for radio day auction

March 28 on WKTN FM

The United Way of Hardin County invites Icon viewers to provide items for its radio day auction held Saturday, March 28, according to Phyllis Griffith.

“Residents and businesses are invited to donate items, which can include products, gift baskets, services, gift certificates, to be auctioned on March 28,” said Phyllis.

Contact the United Way office at 419-675-1860 for more details. The auction is broadcast over WKTN FM, Kenton, and bidding supports 22 agencies in the Hardin County United Way.

Blood glucose checks Friday at Beatitudes

ONU’s HealthWise Pharmacy will be at Beatitudes tomorrow, Friday, Feb. 14, between 11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m., offering blood glucose checks to patrons.  

A blood glucose screening checks the level of glucose (sugar) in your blood stream – too high or too low glucose could indicate a serious medical condition, according to the U.S. National Library of Medicine.

These checks are part of a partnership between Beatitudes community center and Ohio Northern University’s HealthWise Pharmacy, offering free health screenings to residents in the community, according to Deb Curlis of Beatitudes, and Dr. Clay Miller of HealthWise.

Sheep Improvement Association banquet March 7

The Hardin County Sheep Improvement Association holds its annual lamb banquet on Saturday, March 7, at St. John’s Evangelical Church in Kenton at 6:30 p.m.  

Tickets can be reserved from the Extension office, 419-674-2297, and paid for at the door. Adult tickets are $15, children $7, and 2019 Hardin County Junior Fair sheep exhibitors are free with a reservation given to the Extension office by Feb. 28. 

Democrats hold District 5 Congressional candidate forum

Three Democratic candidates are vying for the chance to represent Ohio’s Fifth Congressional District in Congress.

In Ohio’s primary on March 17, Democratic voters will choose one of these candidates to run for the seat currently held by Robert Latta in the U.S. House. The counties in District 5 are Hardin, Hancock, Defiance, Fulton, Henry, Paulding, Putnam, Van Wert, Williams, Wood, Wyandot, and parts of Mercer, Lucas and Ottawa.

On Sunday, Feb. 16, the public is invited to a town hall forum to hear what these candidates have to say to you and to each other. The forum is free and open to the public. is from 6-8 p.m. at The Findlay Social, 330 S. Blanchard St., Findlay.

Feb. 22 caregivers support network program in Ottawa

A caregiver support network event takes place on Saturday, Feb. 22, according to Jami Dellifield, of the Hardin County OSU extension office. A two-page flyer attached at the bottom of this story provides complete details.

The local event is held at the Putnam County Extension Office, 1206 E. 2nd Street, Ottawa. Check in is at 12:30 p.m. and the program begins at 1 p.m.

The cost is $10 for individuals. Several resources are available for participants.

Bluffton Pediatrics participates in disabilities event

Conference and resource fair March 28

Bluffton Pediatrics will participate in the 6th annual Regional Disabilities Conference and Resource Fair in March.

The event is held from 8:30 a.m. to noon on Saturday, March 28, at Union Chapel Missionary Church, 4869 Ada Road, Lima.

This is a regional resource and information event by the Allen County Educational Service Center, the Allen County Parent Mentor Program, the Allen County Board of Developmental Disabilities, the West Central Ohio Abilities Collaborative and Autism Life Center.

The event is for families, caregivers, teachers, paraprofessionals, therapists and individuals with physical, developmental and intellectual disabilities.
