Clarabelle Krofft was a homemaker

Clarabelle Krofft, age 90, passed away on Tuesday, September 28, 2021 at The Heritage in Findlay.

She was born on March 11, 1931 in Ada, Ohio to the late W. Leslie and Hazel (Weber) Smith. On April 22, 1950 Clarabelle married Louis A. Krofft and he died February 26, 1990.

Clarabelle was a homemaker. Clarabelle loved nature, especially trees and birds, crossword puzzles, gardening and her family.  Despite life’s many challenges, Clarabelle’s inner strength and faith helped her face those challenges.  She set an example for her children how to be strong through adversity.  

Ada spikers lose tight battle to Jefferson

The young Ada volleyball team played well but lost a close four-setter to Delphos Jefferson in a Northwest Conference clash Tuesday night, September 28.

After Ada knotted the match at one set apiece, DJ rallied late to win two straight overtime sets to pull out the tight victory.

The Lady Bulldogs dropped to 2-14 overall and 0-5 in the NWC with the 25-18, 22-25, 26-24, 28-26 defeat.

DJ improved to 5-10 and 1-3 in the NWC with the hard-fought win. 

The Bulldog girls knocked down a season-high 46 kills, but also committed 39 costly hitting errors.

Bluffton boys down Ada kickers

The Ada boys soccer team lost 8-2 at home to state-ranked Northwest Conference rival Bluffton Tuesday night, September 28, at War Memorial Stadium.

The Bulldogs dropped to 3-5-3 overall and 0-2-1 in NWC play with the defeat. The Pirates, 10th in the Div. III state rankings, improved to 8-2 and 3-0 in the NWC with the win.

The six-time defending NWC champion Pirates have won 33 league matches in a row. 

Kaden Basil tallied the first goal 40 seconds into the match on a Jude Spallinger assist. Nolan Hoffman then put Bluffton ahead 2-0 on a goal at the 5:45 mark from Basil.

Kenton Hardin drive thru flu shot clinic

The Kenton Hardin Health Department will hold a drive thru flu shot clinic this fall from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 2, 2020.

You can get your flu shot without leaving your vehicle. Shots will be administered in the parking lot under the Health Department, 175 W Franklin St.

Enrollment, retention increase at ONU

Ohio Northern University reports that its Fall ’21 enrollment and retention numbers have markedly risen, surpassing pre-pandemic levels.

  • Overall enrollment rose 10.7%, to 3,116 students, the most attending since Fall 2015.
  • First-year students total 738. They represent the largest freshman cohort in 13 years.
  • First-year retention for the Fall 2020 cohort was 87%, the highest rate since Fall 2013.

Administrators find several factors contributed to ONU’s strong enrollment and retention numbers:
