Barth Montel recognized for teaching accomplishments

Ada elementary teacher, Barth Montel, was recognized Friday by Quest Federal Credit Union, along with one teacher from each of the schools in Hardin County, as Hardin County’s Teachers of the Year.

The ceremony was accompanied by a luncheon at Ada’s, Viva Mari Restaurant.

According to Meri Skilliter, Ada superintendent, “Mr. Montel was generous with his time and expertise, helping colleagues learn more about maximizing apps and programs and platforms so they could best engage students remotely.

“He spent the first semester, switching job assignments with aplomb, to accommodate online option students.

It's Ada vs. Ft. Recovery in baseball tourney opener May 18

The Ada baseball team was seeded 10th at the 13-team Coldwater Div. IV district tournament drawing Sunday.

Ada (6-12, 1-6 NWC) will visit sixth-seeded Ft. Recovery (6-14, 3-6 MAC) Tuesday, May 18 at 5 p.m. in first round sectional action. 

The Ada/FR winner will advance to the second round Thursday, May 20 vs. the winner between fifth-seeded Crestview (10-7) and 12th seed New Knoxville (1-17). 

That second round survivor will move onto the district semifinals. 

The district semis will be at Coldwater on May 26. The district finals are slated for Friday evening, May 28.

Bulldog girls fall at Paulding

PAULDING - The Ada softball team made the long trip to Paulding and lost 10-4 after an hour-long rain delay in Northwest Conference softball play Friday evening.

The Lady Bulldog record fell to 10-11 overall and 1-6 in the NWC with the defeat. The Panther girls improved to 17-3 and 5-2 in the NWC with the victory.

"We hung with them most of the game and our defense kind of let us down late in the game," said Ada head coach Rebecca Dicke. "They had a few singles drop in.     

"We have to get a few more hits and play tighter defense," she added.

Ada netters 2nd at Northern Buckeye Tennis League meet

Woods wins 2nd singles title

BRYAN - The Ada tennis team finished a strong second at the five-team Northern Buckeye Tennis League tournament Friday in Bryan.

Host Bryan rolled to the conference crown with 23 points, while the Bulldogs nosed out Wauseon for second place, 11-9. Archbold finished fourth with eight points, and Rossford ended up fifth with four.

"Medals were awarded for first and second-place finishers, and it was exciting to see all three of Ada's singles players earn their hardware," said Ada head coach Dexter Woods.

ADA - The Ada track and field team hosted its annual 15-team Ada Invitational on a cool but sunny Saturday at War Memorial Stadium.

Carey captured first in the girls meet with 112.33 points. Spencerville finished second with 102.5, and Van Wert came in third (99). The Lady Bulldogs came in seventh out of 14 teams with 36.5 points.

The boys meet title was taken easily by Van Wert with 133 points. Arlington won a crowded race for second with 76 points. Ada finished tied with LCC for 11th out of 15 teams with 19 points.
