Hazelton musicians a big hit at ReStore

Chad Hazelton and three of his children perform for diners at ReStore on Tuesday.

It's the first year of lessons for Jillian on fiddle, Tucker on guitar and Cash on dulcimer.

Dad Chad said it was good experience for his youngsters to perform in public, and the crowd clapped approval after each song.

Chad made the dulcimer and drum set himself. He and his wife, Jamie, home school their children, all six of them.

Next up for the Hazelton family is the county fair where they will show goats, rabbits, chickens and cows...a busy family. (Monty Siekerman)

Republic Services awarded Ada residential trash bid; Waste Management out after 12 years in Ada

After 12 years of service, Waste Management will no longer be collecting Ada’s residential trash. 

The Village Council voted to accept Republic Services as the community’s new waste hauler, because its sealed bid was lower than Waste Management’s.  The contract is for three years, beginning Dec. 1, with an option to renew for another three years.

The savings?  Thirty-seven cents per customer per year.  Republic’s proposed monthly rate and fuel charge was $16.48.  Waste Management’s was $16.84.  Allen County Refuse, another bidder, priced itself out of the running at $17.34.

Ada Academic Boosters membership drive underway

Ada Academic Boosters 2015-16 membership drive is underway according to Tracie Amburgey, president.

The booster group is an volunteer organization that recognizes and encourages Ada students in grades Kindergarten through seniors in high school.

The booster sponsor several activities during the school year include:
• Scholastic book fairs
• New books for media center
• Grad Tab sponsor
• Reading carnival
• Quarterly honor roll assemblies
• Academic honors wall
• College scholarships
and a list of several additional programs.

The Cask Room anniversary week celebration Sept. 7-12; special events each evening

The Cask Room, 127 S. Main St., Ada, celebrates its first anniversary in business with an Anniversary Week Celebration Monday, Sept. 7, through Saturday, Sept. 12, according to Steven Bates.

Here are events planned:

Monday, Sept. 7
Our usual Monday customer appreciation night. 50% off all poured drinks.

Tuesday, Sept. 8
A special wine tasting with food pairing. Come in for a preview of elections that could wind up on our regular food menu. Event starts at 7 p.m. RSVPs encouraged, but not required.

It's for a good cause

Campus life sometimes gets you dirty. Here's one of those times. Ohio Northern University Freshman Matt Ludic returns the ball. The annual Founders Hall Mud Volleyball tournament has taken place for more than 30 years at Ohio Northern University. This year, 105 teams recently played to raise money for Dolly Parton's Imagination Library. (From ONU Facebook)
