22,020 books and counting

It's an open book this week at Ada Elementary

They are reading up a storm at the Ada elementary school this week, as its spring read-a-thon is underway.

Here are  classroom results from the first week.
• 513 books read by Kindergarten, first and second graders
• 21,507 books read by third, fourth and fifth graders

If you examine the accompanying photo, you'll notice a mustache-growing event as part of this – and you may ask your elementary students to explain.

The read-a-thon also has a fundraiser element. Students are earning money for the Ada Food Pantry.

A $3,500 goal is part of this portion of the read-a-thon. See an Ada K-5 student to contribute to that goal.

Screening examinations

During COVID-19 pandemic

During the COVID-19 pandemic, which has lasted the better part of a year now, many things have been postponed, cancelled or rescheduled. Family gatherings, vacations and sports are just a few examples of things that may have been put off for another time. Unfortunately, many people have also experienced this with their recommended health screening examinations during the COVID-19 pandemic. For many reasons, routine screening examinations may have been postponed, cancelled or rescheduled. In fact, the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reports that an estimated 31.5% of U.S. adults had delayed or avoided routine medical care due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
