Women record 8th straight shutout • Men score goals 28 seconds apart

WESTERVILLE — The Ohio Northern women's soccer team drew 0-0 against Otterbein Thursday night at Memorial Stadium.

After the tie 110 minutes of play, both the Polar Bears and Cardinals move to 7-0-1 overall and 7-0-1 in the Ohio Athletic Conference.

Junior Kristy Catrine (Springboro) recorded ten saves in her seventh shutout in goal. She ran her scoreless streak to a school-record 733 minutes this season and 736 minutes in her career.

Otterbein recorded their fifth consecutive shutout of the season.

The Cardinals out-shot the Polar Bears 22-10 and held a 5-2 advantage in corner kicks.

With the shutout, ONU set a new school record with their eight consecutive shutout, breaking the previous record of seven in 2017 and 2018.

With one game remaining in the OAC regular season, Northern will travel to Mount Union Sunday for a 2 pm contest.

A Polar Bear win clinches at least a share of the OAC regular season championship. OU will wrap up its regular season at Capital in a match that will also have OAC title implications.

Men's soccer

ADA — Sophomore Jeffrey Firestone (Brecksville-Broadview Heights) and junior Levi King (Indianapolis, Ind./North Central) scored goals just 28 seconds apart midway through the first half to lead Ohio Northern to a 2-0 Ohio Athletic Conference men's soccer victory over Otterbein on Thursday evening at Dial-Roberson Stadium.

The Polar Bears improve to 4-3-1 overall and are 4-3-1 in the OAC, while the Cardinals fall to 3-4-1, 3-4-1.

Firestone scored his first collegiate goal with 11:45 gone in the contest off an assist from senior Zach Yoder(Goshen, Ind./Northridge) to put ONU on top 1-0.

Just 28 seconds later, King picked up a loose ball in traffic in front of the net and scored his team-leading fifth goal to make it 2-0.

Each team had several chances to score in the final 75 minutes, but ONU was able to protect its lead.

Junior John Lombardo (Solon) finished with five saves in goal to record his 15th career shutout.

Otterbein out-shot Ohio Northern 16-6 and had a 4-3 advantage in corner kicks.

The Polar Bears will wrap up their regular season on Sunday with a 2 pm home match against Mount Union on Senior Day at Kerscher Stadium.
