Country-style breakfast on Saturday

The Alger Memorial Festival Committee is sponsoring a Country-Style breakfast on Saturday,April 7 from 7:00 to 11:00 a.m. 

They will be serving biscuits, sausage gravy, hash-browns, scrambled eggs, fried apples, sausage patties and beverage.

Suggested donation is $7.00. All-you-can-eat (on premises only). Carry out is available,

Lucie Anna Shepherd, 1918 - 2018

Lucie Anna Shepherd, age 99, died on Sunday, March 18, 2018 at 1:29 p.m. at Lima Convalescent Home.

          She was born on April 4, 1918 in Pyramid, Kentucky to the late Peter and Emiline (Hicks) Moore.  On February 14, 1934 Lucie married George Shepherd and he died on March 20, 1979.   

          Lucie was a homemaker.  She was a member of the Pentecostal Tabernacle Church, Alger.  

Two 7th grade teams advance to Columbus - state science fair

Two 7th grade teams from Ada advanced to the state Science Day in Columbus.

Dylan Hartman and Logan House advanced and also won the district engineering award. Their project was titled “Do Bearings Reduce Friction?”

The other team advancing is Amelia Alexander and Miranda Wibbing with the project "Water Transportation.” They also received the B-Weiser award at the district fair.

Spring is on the way in Ada

Spring begins at 12:15 p.m. on Tuesday, but there are few signs of Spring this year, and several chances of snow the next few days doesn’t bode well for Spring’s appearance anytime soon.

However, the camera did catch a few crocus in bloom on Monday at a home on East Lehr Avenue. You’ll also notice a daffodil bud in the upper left hand corner of the picture.

Scholastic bowl team 32 seasons ago

It's Ada High School's scholastic bowl team from the 1985-86 school year.

Members are Philip Allen, Cameron Nelson, Jean Baughman and Andrea Traster.

Phoebe G Holloway, 1936 - 2018

Phoebe G. Holloway, age 82, died on Saturday, March 17, 2018 at Lima Memorial Health System, Lima.

          She was born on February 25, 1936 in Lima, Ohio to the late Hugh and Ruby (Shaw) Holloway. 

          Phoebe retired from HARCO Sheltered Workshop in Kenton.  She was a member of the Ada Church of Christ Disciples and previously attended the First United Methodist Church of Ada.

          She is survived by her guardians, Eric and Kim Archer of Ada; several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews; and special friend, David Patton. 

2 die in crash Sunday night

Two Indiana residents died in a head-on crash at 9:44 p.m. on Sunday on SR 117 south of Holden. The unincorporated village of Holden is located between Alger and Roundhead, west of SR 235.

 

A southbound car crashed head-on with a pickup truck. The occupants of the car, Marcus Daniel Cory, 33, Ft. Wayne, and Michelle Hakey, 29, Columbia City, were pronounced dead at the scene

 

Occupants of the pickup truck were taken by medical helicopter to St. Vincent’s Medical Center in Toledo with serious injuries. They include the driver Sonia Kropaczewski-McNamara, 39, and two children, ages 5 and 9 months of Grand Junction, Michigan.

 

Want to help organize the Ada Historical Society?

Anyone interested in helping to form an Historical Society in Ada is welcome to attend a meeting at 6:30 p.m.tonight (Monday) at the Ada Public Library. Several interested citizens from Ada and Liberty Township have been meeting monthly since last fall to organize the Society. The meeting will conclude by 8 p.m.
