By completing training to join the University Innovation Fellows program

Four Ohio Northern students have completed training to join the University Innovation Fellows program, which is run by Stanford University’s Hasso Plattner Institute of Design.

The students, who are enrolled in ONU’s Smull College of Engineering, are Connor Hull of Algonquin, Ill.; Matthew Schweinefuss of Liberty Township, Ohio; Georgia Snelling of Findlay; and Matt Walker of Hilliard.

The program encourages student leaders to increase campus engagement with innovation, entrepreneurship, creativity and design thinking.

Students who are selected for this program are sponsored by faculty and administrators and selected through an application process twice annually.

Everhart, the hometown kid with a golden foot, chooses ONU

By Grant Pepper
Bob Olwin laughed.

Those who know Olwin know that this is rare, especially in a football context. But the former Ada head coach, who just announced his retirement last week, was asked a question.

“Did Aaron Everhart ever get tired?”

Chuckles came in thick and heavy through the phone, and the response was delayed: “Sometimes.”

What Spring?

Ken Collins’ camera caught some snow scenes this morning after a 3-inch snow fell on the first day of Spring. Slippery roads early this morning caused school cancellation. Ken’s photos catch a few robins hunkering down, probably wishing they stayed longer in the South. In the last photo the blue jay seems to be saying, “Why all the fuss, I live here year round.” Village employees and ONU personnel were out early clearing roadways and sidewalks.

The Icons are one of the very first web-based-only community news sources to be accepted into membership.

Steiner said that several years ago the association, then known as the Ohio Newspaper Association, did not accept non-print members. With the name change the association has broaden its membership coverage.
