ONU softball preview

The Ohio Northern softball team will look to continue to be a top-tier team in the Ohio Athletic Conference in 2018 under the watch of second-year head coach Jackie Price.

The Polar Bears posted an impressive 25-13 record in Price's first year as head coach of ONU, and finished fifth in the OAC at 9-9.

Price and her staff welcome back a talented team that features 12 letter winners, led by seniors and three time letter winners Kirsten Lightel (Tallmadge), Miranda Huddle(Versailles), Jenna Hollar (Lima/Bath) and Leanna Henry (West Jefferson).

ONU baseball season preview

The Ohio Northern baseball team will look to utilize its depth and experience this year as it looks to take the next step and challenge for an Ohio Athletic Conference title in under the guidance of seventh-year head coach Gene Stechschulte.

A year after finishing 21-19 overall for its fourth consecutive winning season, and posting a 7-11 record in the OAC and finishing seventh in the conference standings, Northern is primed to be a contender in the OAC race this season.

Men swimmers, divers rate high academically

ONU seniors Thomas Golba (Dayton/Alter) and Ian Simpson (Strongsville) and junior Gabe Rastatter (Springfield/Kenton Ridge) were named Academic All-Ohio Athletic Conference in men's swimming & diving for 2017-18.

Award winners must be a sophomore or higher in class standing, maintain varsity status and have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.50.

Golba, a mechanical engineering major, is now a three-time Academic All-OAC award winner.

3 on women’s swim/dive team gain OAC academic honors

ONU seniors Maggie Dempster (Akron/Firestone) and Kasey Mucher (Arlington, Tex./Oakridge) and junior Kierra Watson (Brownsburg, Ind.) were named Academic All-Ohio Athletic Conference in women's swimming & diving for 2017-18.

Award winners must be a sophomore or higher in class standing, maintain varsity status and have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.50.

Dempster is a three-time Academic All-Conference honoree and is majoring in pharmacy.

She was a diver her first two seasons at ONU and competed in the fly, back and I.M. events the past two seasons.

March 16th: Interclass @ 7:00 pm in auditorium
March 23rd: Grade cards sent home with students
March 27th: 2 Hr Early Dismissal for Staff Development meeting
March 30th to April 2: NO SCHOOL Easter break

TRACK: Any high school or junior high student planning on participating in track and field can stop in Coach Craig's room and pick up a spirit pack form.  Spirit Packs are due by Friday, March 9th.

Amy Bullimore OAC player of the year

Earlier this month ONU's Ryan Bruns also received this honor

For the second consecutive season, Ohio Northern's women's basketball team has represented the Ohio Athletic Conference with the Player of the Year as senior Amy Bullimore (Little Miami) earned the honor for the 2017-18 campaign, while three Polar Bears earned All-OAC honors in the voting conducted by the league's 10 head coaches.

As well as being named the OAC Player of the Year, Bullimore was named First Team All-OAC, while junior Jenna Dirksen (Beavercreek/Carroll) earned Second Team All-OAC honors and senior Lindsey Black (Urbana/Graham) was dubbed Honorable Mention All-OAC.

6 named for OAC academic excellence

Six athletes from the Ohio Northern men's basketball team have been named Academic All-Ohio Athletic Conference for the 2017-18 season.

Seniors Joey DiOrio (Columbus/Watterson), Max Harnett (Kettering/Alter) and Alex Sibila (Zionsville, Ind.), junior Sean Grady (Willowick/Eastlake North) and sophomores Caleb Bryan (Pittsburgh, Pa./Montour) and Austin Wurm (Bloomville/Buckeye Central) each earned the honor for Northern.

DiOrio, a mechanical engineering major, is a three-time Academic All-OAC award winner.

Cassandra "Cassie" F. McKee, 1982 - 2018

Cassandra “Cassie” F. McKee, age 35, died on Thursday, March 01, 2018 at 1:08 a.m. at Lima Memorial Health System.

          She was born on August 6, 1982 in Toldeo, Ohio to James and Jeanne (Shaw) McKee and they survive in Ada.

           Cassie worked for HARCO Industries for 15 years.  She was a graduate of Ada High School and previously attended Kenton City Schools. 

          Also surviving is her brother, Alexander McKee of Findlay; grandfather, Ronald McKee and grandmother, Carole Shaw Tong both of Ada.

          She was preceded in death by a beloved cousin, Tiffany Haney with whom she shared a very special bond.  

Prof to speak in England

Diana Garlough, Ed. D., Ohio Northern University assistant professor of education, had a proposal accepted to deliver a presentation at the World Literacy Summit in Oxford, England, on March 27. Garlough is chair of the Department of Education and the accreditation coordinator for teacher education at ONU.
