It's ONU's student-run Polar Merchandise

By Monty Siekerman
An entirely ONU student-run business has been successful, both financially and as a learning experience. Founded in 2010, Polar Merchandise has a team typically between 5-12 students. Their goal? To provide their customers with custom promotional products at low prices.

Company associates are looking to expand their sales territory beyond campus by encouraging local companies and service organizations to buy from them. Polar Merchandise, offers t-shirts, key chains, cups, frisbees, and more. In fact, they have access to over a million of promotional products and apparel items.

May 1923 the first advertisement for the Public Service Filling Station, located on East Buckeye Street, appeared in the newspaper. Earl S. Wolfrom was the local manager.

May 1923 the first sectional elimination track meet of northwestern Ohio high schools was held here. Twelve schools were represented.

Tom Ginsburg, professor of international law at the University of Chicago, will deliver the Kormendy Lecture at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 13 at the law college. He will discuss “How to lose constitutional democracy – and how to save it.”

In his talk, Ginsburg will explore if the United States is at risk of democratic backsliding and if the Constitution can prevent it. As he notes, to some, the 2016 election campaign brought this question to the forefront, while to others, the election represented a populist accountability movement against an unresponsive elite.

Our polar bear fixation - part 4

By Monty Siekerman
This is the fourth and final installment of the adventures of Bi, the little polar bear from the Arctic who came to visit his friend Klondike during an especially cold winter in Ada.

Today, Bi finds King-Horn/Sports Center on campus and is amazed at all the polar bears he found there.

Yes, the athletic complex has roaring, mean-looking bears, then there are some not so scary. He cuddles up to a coed on the bleachers, even finds a polar bear face made of tile on one of the walls.

Recently made into a movie, Wonder tells the story of Augie Pullman, and centers on themes of kindness and acceptance.

State Superintendent DeMaria purchased a grade level set of the sequel, Auggie and Me, in recognition of Shadley’s unit, in which students focused on kindness. (See photo attached)
