WESTERVILLE — The No. 5-ranked Ohio Northern women's indoor track and field team finished fourth at the All-Ohio Championships on Saturday at Otterbein's Clements Recreation Center.

The Polar Bears (28-5 overall) finished fourth of 17 teams with 67 points. Otterbein won the team title with 109 points, Mount Union was second with 106 points and Ohio Wesleyan was third with 87 points.

Sophomore Taylor Lavey (New Baltimore, Mich./Findlay) and junior All-American Maddie Reed (Piketon) led Ohio Northern individually with second place finishes.

UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS — John Carroll used a 13-2 run midway through the fourth quarter to overcome a 7-point deficit and upset No. 15-Ohio Northern 68-66 on Saturday afternoon at the DeCarlo Center.

The Polar Bears fall to 20-3 overall and stay on top of the Ohio Athletic Conference with a 14-2 record, while the Blue Streaks improve to 6-17, 4-12.

Senior Amy Bullimore (Morrow/Little Miami) scored 16 points and grabbed nine rebounds and sophomore Emily Mescher (Maria Stein/Marion Local) scored 16 points and grabbed six rebounds to lead ONU.

ALBION, Mich. — The Ohio Northern men's tennis team opened the spring portion of its schedule with a 7-2 victory at Albion (Mich.) on Saturday at the Ungrodt Tennis Center.

The Polar Bears (1-0 overall) will also play Olivet (Mich.) Saturday night at the Ungrodt Tennis Center.

Albion falls to 1-2.

Northern started the match by sweeping the doubles courts.

Freshmen Vinh Thai (Galloway/St. Charles) and Hoang Do (Powell/Olentangy Liberty) rallied from 5-0 and 6-1 deficits to win 8-6 at No. 1 doubles.

The Polar Bears (21-12 overall), scored 25 points to finish ninth of 18 teams.

Mount Union won the meet with 143 points, Case Western Reserve was second with 96 points and Ohio Wesleyan was third with 54 points.

Junior Spencer Schulze (St. Henry) and freshman Sam Krabacher (Hamilton/Badin) had the top individual performances for ONU.

BEREA —Ohio Northern overcame an 18-point first half deficit, but cold-shooting from long range and a late run by No. 24-ranked John Carroll was the difference in a 90-80 loss on Saturday afternoon at the ONU Sports Center.

The Polar Bears (16-7 overall, 11-5 Ohio Athletic Conference) got a game-high 33 points from senior Nate Burger (Dayton/Alter), 17 points from junior Ryan Bruns(Chickasaw/Marion Local) and 12 from senior Joey DiOrio (Columbus/Watterson).

BELLEFONTAINE - The Ada wrestling team grappled at Ben Logan along with Buckeye Valley Friday night, losing two close dual matches.

 

The Bulldogs fell to BL 30-23, and lost 42-39 to Buckeye Valley.

 

In their first match, Ada senior Chase Sumner defeated Cole Hauser of host BL 10-8 at 145 lbs.

 

Bulldog sophomore Reece Evans followed with a 5-1 decision victory over Raider Taylor Hites at 152 lbs. to pull Ada within 6-5.

 

Ada junior Carson Hissong posted a pin of Nick Rose at 1:04 in the 160 lbs. class to give the Bulldogs an 11-6 edge.

ADA - Visiting Lincolnview forged a 19-4 run bridging the middle quarters to defeat Ada 53-39 in Northwest Conference boys basketball action Friday night.  

 

The the Bulldogs drop to 4-15 overall and 2-4 in the NWC with the defeat. Meanwhile, the Lancers improve to 12-7 and 6-1 in league play after the victory.  

 

The victory kept the second-place Lancers a half-game behind league-leading rival Crestview (6-0 NWC), which rallied to beat Paulding Friday night.

 

This year’s Citizen Sheriff’s Academy is slated for March 8-April 26 with weekly meetings held on Thursdays from 6-8:30 pm. The Academy is designed to provide a working knowledge of the Hardin County sheriff’s office.

Academy instructors will explain and demonstrate the various aspects of the sheriff’s responsibilities using classroom discussions and hands-on participation.

Saturday's Matches: The Ohio Northern men's tennis team will open up its Spring schedule with a pair of matches on Saturday at Albion ... The Polar Bears will play Albion (Mich.) at 2 pm and Olivet (Mich.) at 6 pm at the Ungrodt Tennis Center, a 4-court indoor facility on Albion's campus ... After back-to-back 6-13 campaigns, Ohio Northern got to .500 at 11-11 in 2017 in the first season under head coach Mike Bonnell ...

ALLENDALE, Mich. — A week after posting the third fastest time in the 800-meter run in Div. III history, Ohio Northern senior Emily Richards (Delaware/Hayes) posted another historical feat as she broke the all-time Div. III record in the event at the Grand Valley State (Mich.) Big Meet on Friday evening.

Richards broke the previous record set in 2013 by Wis.-Oshkosh's Christy Cazzola by nearly half a second. The senior also broke her own school record for the second consecutive week after finishing in a record 2:05.28.
