Bulldog earns All-NWC notice

DELPHOS - One Adaite received All-Northwest Conference boys basketball honors from the league coaches in voting conducted Monday night at their annual selection meeting in Delphos.

 

Bulldog junior post Connor Frazier was named honorable mention all-conference.

 

The 6-5 Frazier led the team in rebounds, blocked shots and was second in points scored.

 

Anita S Krummrey, 1947 - 2018

Anita S. Krummrey, age 70, passed away on Monday, February 26, 2018 at 7:00 p.m. at home surrounded by her family in Belle Center, Ohio.

          She was born on November 30, 1947 in Lima, OH to the late Walter W. and Molly R. (Salyer) Wies.  She is survived by her husband of 47 years, Larry Krummrey, whom she married on August 22, 1970.

Historical Society making its own history

The organizing committee of the Ada Historical Society decided the date for the annual meeting, elected several new board members, and learned that a website has been developed. The group met Monday evening at the Ada Public Library.

The annual meeting and membership drive will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, April 16, at Viva Maria’s. Dinner cost will be $15. Membership is open to anyone. Dues are $10 for an individual, $15 for a family, $25 for a business and $300 for a lifetime membership.

Ada on top of 40-team scholastic bowl

Outscored second-place Coldwater by 20 points

The Ada High School quiz bowl team won the 40-team Western Ohio Branch Campus Scholastic Bowl held Tuesday at Wright State-Celina.  Ada not only won its own small school division but also easily out distanced all schools regardless of size.

The Ada Varsity A team finished with 137 points while runner-up Coldwater finished with 117 points while capturing the large school division.

The competition consisted of eight 25-minute rounds on the topics of social studies, science, language, business, math, popular culture, fine arts and inventions/technology. Four teams competed simultaneously in each match.

Junior Guard takes first place in Columbus

The Ada Junior High Winter Guard earned first place in the Scholastic Regional A class beating out 12 other High School Winter Guards Saturday, Feb. 24, at the Mid-East Performance Association (MEPA) competition held at the Nutter Center in Dayton.

Team members are (from left) Olivia Thomas, Alaina Robirds, Olivia Green, Tessa Long and, holding the certificate, Mitchell Frazier. Ada has a Junior Winter Guard for 8th and 9th graders and a Senior Winter Guard for students in grades 9-12.

They compete by dancing and tossing flags. Harry Potter is this year’s theme. The groups next compete on March 4 in Columbus.

Bulldog boys ousted by Tigers

COLDWATER - Ada got off to a big early lead but could not hold off Waynesfield-Goshen and fell 66-59 in boys Div. IV sectional semifinal action at Coldwater Tuesday night.  

 

The Bulldogs end their season 4-19. Meanwhile, Waynesfield improves to 7-16 and advances to the sectional finals Friday.

 

Ada raced to a 15-2 advantage, but the Tigers inched within 17-8 by the end of the first period. W-G then heated up and outscored the Bulldogs 37-18 over the middle quarters to seize momentum and control of the game.

3 garner OAC wrestling honors

ONU sophomore Nate Barcaskey (Moon Township, Pa./Moon Area) and seniors Gavin Nelson (Oregon/Clay) and Seth Meyer (Defiance) and were named All-Ohio Athletic Conference in wrestling for 2017-18 in voting conducted by the league's seven head coaches.

 

Barcaskey was a First Team honoree and Nelson and Meyer were Second Team selections.

Barcaskey, a heavyweight, is a repeat First Team All-OAC pick and is a perfect 12-0 in OAC regular season dual meet competition.

Latala chosen Player of the Week

ONU sophomore Ola Latala (Grosse Ile, Mich.) has been named the Women's Tennis Ohio Athletic Conference Athlete of the Week for the week.

The sophomore earned the honor for the first time in her career.

Latala led the way for ONU last week, posting a perfect 3-0 record at No. 3 singles and going 2-1 record in doubles play at No. 1 doubles.

In ONU's only loss of the week, Latala led the way at No. 3 singles with a 6-1, 6-4 victory.

Freshman named Player of the Week

ONU freshman Hoang Do (Powell/Olentangy Liberty) has been named the Men's Tennis Ohio Athletic Conference Athlete of the Week for the week of Feb. 26.

The freshman posted a perfect 4-0 record in singles play during the week and was 2-2 in doubles play at No. 1 doubles on his way to earning his first career OAC Athlete of the Week nod.

Do was perfect against Albion (Mich.), Franciscan and Washington & Jefferson (Pa.) at No. 2 singles and won at No. 3 singles in Northern's contest against Olivet (Mich.).
