ONU senior Nate Burger (Dayton/Alter) scored a career-high 41 points to lead Ohio Northern to an 82-68 men's basketball victory at Otterbein on Wednesday evening at the Rike Center.

The Polar Bears move to 17-7 overall and are 12-5 Ohio Athletic Conference, while the Cardinals are now 1-23, 1-16.

Senior Joey DiOrio (Columbus/Watterson) posted his second career double-double with 11 points and a career-high 12 rebounds and senior Travis Feitshans (Arcanum/Franklin Monroe) added 10 for ONU.

It's the economic development arm of the village

Ada's Community Improvement Corp. (CIC) invites membership from the Ada community in 2018.

Membership in the CIC is open to all interested residents. An annual membership is $25.

Community improvement corporations are economic development arms for the governmental body they serve. In that way, a CIC advances, encourages and promotes industrial, economic, commercial and civic development in a community.

CIC meetings are open to the public and take place at noon on a quarterly basis in McIntosh Center on the ONU campus. The next meeting is April 18.

Ceramics professor Luke Sheets has had a work accepted in Palliative Pour, a juried exhibition to be held March 2-30 in Pittsburgh.

The invitational is a venue generated exhibition for the national conference for the National Council on Education for the Ceramic Arts (NCECA). The show features ceramic drinking vessels created for the consumption of distilled and fermented beverages, created within the last two years

For the second time this season, senior Emily Richards (Delaware/Hayes) has been named the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Women's Div. III National Athlete of the Week.

Richards first earned the honor the week of Dec. 5, 2017 after shattering the school record in the women's 3,000-meter run indoors by 40.62 seconds. She posted the second fastest time in Div. III history in the event.

The Ohio Northern women's lacrosse team has been selected to finish seventh in the Ohio Athletic Conference preseason poll.

The Polar Bears return 12 letterwinners and eight starters from last year's squad that finished 3-13 overall and was 2-6 in the OAC.

Northern will open its season on Feb. 22 at Hiram and will open the home portion of its schedule at Dial-Roberson Stadium as it plays host to Trine (Ind.) on Feb. 25 at 5 pm under third-year head coach Beth Hemminger.

ONU sophomore Jeff Andrews (New Baltimore, Mich./Anchor Bay) has been named the Ohio Athletic Conference Wrestler of the Week.

The sophomore earned the honor for the first time in his career.

Andrews posted a perfect 4-0 record at the Mid-States Invitational in the 149-pound weight class.

After winning with a tech fall in his first match of the invitational, Andrews recorded two major decisions and a decision to lead the way for ONU.

For the second consecutive week, ONU senior Emily Richards (Delaware/Hayes) was named the Ohio Athletic Conference Women's Track Athlete of the Week after a historic 800-meter race at the Grand Valley State (Mich.) Big Meet on Saturday.

Richards earned the honor for the second time this season.

After posting the third fastest time in Div. III history in the 800-meter run two weekends ago, Richards followed her performance up with an even more impressive race at the GVSU Big Meet.

The Ohio Northern men's lacrosse team has been picked to finish fourth in the Ohio Athletic Conference preseason coaches poll.

Capital and John Carroll were picked to finish first while Baldwin Wallace was picked to finish third.

The Polar Bears return 34 lettermen and all 10 starters from last year's squad that finished 9-7 overall and 4-4 in the OAC.

Northern will open its 2018 campaign under third-year head coach Nat St. Laurent on Feb. 17 with a home game against Calvin (Mich.) at 3 pm at Dial-Roberson Stadium.

WAYNESFIELD - Host Waynesfield-Goshen took advantage of cold Ada shooting to build a big lead and held on for a 56-40 girls basketball non-league win Tuesday evening.

 

The Lady Bulldogs dropped to 4-16 with the defeat, while the Lady Tigers improved to 7-14 with the victory.

 

Ada trailed 24-6 at halftime after shooting just two for 29 from the field. The Bulldogs outscored W-G 34-32 after intermission, but it was too little, too late.

 

Senior Anney Archer led Ada with 17 points. Classmate guard Teara Coulson contributed 10 markers, and Bulldog senior Maddie Gossard added six.
