Women’s track ranked 8th in nation

The Ohio Northern women's indoor track and field team is ranked No. 8 in the first weekly United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association power rankings

The Polar Bears finished tied for fifth as a team at the 2017 Indoor National Championships, posting the best team finish at the indoor championships in school history.

ONU is coming off of a second place finish at the season-opening OAC North Split meet on Friday evening.

Devils rally past game Bulldog boys

ADA - Visiting Arlington outscored Ada by 13 points after intermisison to post a hard-fought 57-47 non-conference boys basketball victory Tuesday night.  

 

The purple and gold fell to 3-12 with the loss, while the Red Devils improved to 8-6 with the tough win.

 

The Bulldogs led 30-24 early in the third period when the game turned. Arlington reeled off a 14-1 spurt to take a lead it never relinquished. The Bulldogs did rally to tie the game early in the fourth quarter and trailed just 45-44 midway through the fourth period.

Hot-shooting Gophers girls down Ada

ADA - Visiting Ridgemont nailed 10 three-pointers en route to a 77-39 victory over county rival Ada in non-league girls basketball action Monday night.

 

The purple and gold fell to 4-11 with the defeat, while the Lady Gophers improved to 10-6 with the win.

 

Ridgemont placed four players in double figures and pulled away with a 13-2 second period run that led to a 17-point halftime margin. The Bulldogs never got closer than 17 in the second half.

Those interested in organizing the Ada Historical Society met Monday evening at the Ada Public Library. Members of the group welcome newcomers to the next meeting, which will begin at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 26, at the library.

Geography Bee top three finishers

Here are the winners of the Geography Bee at Ada Schools on Tuesday (from left) Isaac Williams, first, 8th grade; Jacob Sutherly, second, 7th grade; Josh Thaxton, third, 4th grade.

Now, the winners take a written test to see if they qualify for state competition. Materials are prepared by the National Geographic Society. The local competition is sponsored by Ada Academic Boosters.

Mrs. Suzanne Hardesty has coordinated the event for the past 12 years. She and Mike Styer are judges. All students in grades 4-8 took a test in their classrooms to qualify to represent their grade.

Team ranked 10th nationally

The Ohio Northern women's basketball team continues to be ranked 10th in the nation during this week’s poll. After falling in their season-opener, the Polar Bears (16-1 overall, 10-0 OAC) have won 16 straight.

The Polar Bears return to action at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday when they host Wilmington at the ONU Sports Center.

So you’ve decided to start eating healthy this year, but have no idea where to start.

Honestly speaking, you may even be a little discouraged at the thought. Fruits and vegetables….ugh!  Rest assured healthy eating does not have to be overwhelming or boring.

The first thing to remember is to start small. “Rome wasn’t built in a day.” Lasting lifestyle changes are most effective when done in small steps. For example, try incorporating or replacing one snack each day with a fruit or vegetable. 

OHSAA sets fall sports divisional breakdowns for football, volleyball and soccer

Competitive Balance roster data from 2017 season used to determine 2018 divisional assignments

New divisional breakdowns for the upcoming fall sports of football, volleyball and soccer were approved by the Ohio High School Athletic Association Board of Directors during its January meeting last Thursday.

Ada's divisions follow:
• Football - Division VI
• Volleyball - Division IV
• Soccer, Boys and Girls - Division III
