Richland Manor ice cream social July 18

Richland Manor, 7400 Swaney Road, Bluffton, will hold a summer ice cream social at 6:30 p.m., Thursday, July 18.
The event is free and open to the public. In addition to ice cream there will be live entertainment from the Hallalujah Saints Band.

Identity theft topic of Ada Kiwanis Club meeting

President Myrna McCurdy called the weekly meeting (June 25) of the Ada Kiwanis Club to order at 12 p.m. at McIntosh Center, ONU.

The invocation was offered by Jon Umphress.

Chris Daniels was welcomed as a guest.

The membership anniversary of Mark Shull (July 1, 1962) was noted.

The wedding anniversary of Tom and Karen Kier (June 30, 1984) was also noted.

Ada fire 100 years ago

This devastating fire destroyed the administration building at Ohio Northern University 100 years ago this year.

The fire took place on Nov. 4, 1913, and was discovered at 2 a.m. You can see silhouettes of persons watching the fire in the center of the photograph. The photo is from a postcard.

ONU legends Helen Ludwig, D'Artis Jones to be named to 2014 Ohio Basketball Hall of Fame Class

Ohio Northern women's athletics pioneer Helen Ludwig and former ONU men's basketball NCAA Player of the Year D'Artis Jones will be inducted into Ohio Basketball Hall of Fame as part of the class of 2014 in May.

Ludwig and Jones will join former men's basketball coach Joe Campoli and Ohio Northern's 1993 men's basketball team as recent inductees into the prestigious Ohio Basketball Hall of Fame.

Eight former players, five coaches, an official and a pioneer for women's college athletics will have their names added to the distinguished group of honorees.
