Next Ada blood drive July 15

Ada's next American Red Cross blood drive is Monday, July 15. The drive is from 11:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. at the Community Health Professionals, 1200 S. Main St., Ada. To schedule an appointment call 419-634-1333. 

Walk-ins are also accepted.

Blood Donors Must:

• Be healthy
• Be at least 17 years old in most states, or 16 years old with parental consent if allowed by state law 
• Weigh at least 110 lbs.
 

Ready, Set, Grow Pre-school summer camp registrations underway

Ready, Set, Grow, Pre-School is closed for the summer, however it will hold a summer camp in August.

The camp dates are Monday to Friday, Aug. 19-23, from 9 to 11:30 a.m. Persons wanting more information may contact Jami Dellifield at 419-889-9264.

Pressure-canning workshop July 15 and 25 at OSU Kenton extension office

Gardeners and other lovers of fresh produce are often interested in extending the season's bounty by home-preserving fruits and vegetables.

Sign up to learn/refresh your skills by attending one of two hand-on “Pressure Canning Workshop" presented by OSU Extension at 6:30 – 9:00 p.m. on either Monday, July 15, or Thursday, July 25, at 1021 W. Lima St., Kenton.

Kiwanis tree planting moved to July 10

The Ada Kiwanis Club's tree planting date has changed according to Myrna McCurdy, club president.

The tree planting at the Ada Park was originally scheduled for July 9. It is now taking place on Wednesday evening, July 10.

 

46 degree difference in June's minimum and maximum temperature

March has that whole lamb and lion thing going.  What do we get when June temperatures vary by 46 degrees in the month?

According to Icon weather observer Guy Verhoff, the high temperature for June was 91 degrees (F) on June 25.  The low temperature was 45 degrees on June 4.

June saw precipitation totals of 3.52 inches of rain.  This is slightly below the June normal average of 4.16 inches.

Robert "Bob" Jump owned a dairy farm in Liberty Township since 1955

Robert E. "Bob" Jump, 81, died Tuesday, July 02, 2013, at 10:23 a.m. at Lima Memorial Health Systems, Lima.

He was born on July 8, 1931, in Forest, Ohio, to Clarence H. and Marie Luella (Dirmeyer) Jump and they preceded him in death. He married Jane Woodard who preceded him in death on Sept. 15, 2001.

Mr. Jump was a farmer and dairyman. He attended Sugar Grove United Methodist Church, Ada. He was a 1949 graduate of Ada High School. He was a U.S. Army Veteran who served during the Korean War from 1953 to 1955. He served as a Hardin County Junior Fair Board member from 1946 to 1949. He served as a 4-H adviser for 15 years, served as fair director from 1960 to 1977.
