Ada area u-12 fastpitch softball team headed to Orlando, Florida

An Ada-area u-12 fastpitch softball team with members from Ada, Bluffton, Allen East and several other area communities, has qualified for the USSSA series of softball in Orlando, Fla. The series starts July 20.

The team is ranked second in USSSA power rankings in the Ohio North u12B division. The team has had success in tournaments in Kenton, Van Wert, Toledo Tune up, Beavercreek and the Ohio State Fast Pitch tournament.

For example, the team was runner up in Beavercreek and Kenton, champions in Van Wert, 10th in the Toledo Tune up (22 teams) and fifth at the Ohio State event.

1958 Orange Township fox hunt

Although this photo has its roots a bit north of Ada, it may have some Ada connections.

There's several things we know about this photo - and several unknowns. The photo was taken as a black and white snapshot in February 1958 in front of the Orange Township garage. It's a group of fox hunters with three foxes.

What we lack is an identification of the hunters. We've enlarged the photo as much as possible without losing a viewable image.

We invite Icon viewers to take a stab at naming these men.

Fastpitch softball team car wash Thursday

The Ohio Xtreme 12U fastpitch travel softball team will be holding a car wash in the parking lot at Rite Aid as a fundraiser

The event helps with expenses to play in the USSSA World Series in Orlando Fla., which begins July 20.  The car wash will be this Thursday from 4 - 7 p.m.

 

Here's a puzzle to solve

Here's a puzzle. The Girl Scouts of Western Ohio offer a puzzle path in the Ada park for your summer entertainment. The walking path puzzle offers 10 clue signs. Each sign contains a clue that relates to the final answer. Collect all 10 clues to help solve the puzzle. When you walk across the stepping stones, check out each hand-painted design created by community members.

Music on Main returns to the Depot Friday night

The Buy Ada First committee is hosting its second Music on Main event at downtown Ada this summer.

The Music on Main event is from 6 to 8 p.m., Friday, July 12, at the Depot Park. Music will be provided by Kevin Plaugher – from the group Common Thread and WONB-94.9 FM, which includes music from the 1950s to today.

The Ada Kiwanis Club will hold a pre-sale Harlan’s chicken barbecue dinner during the event at the Depot Parking lot. Dinners are $7.50 and include one-half barbecue chicken, baked beans and applesauce. Drinks will also be available.

Only one month away - Farmers and Merchants celebration 100th picnic

It’s one month away – the 100th anniversary of the Ada Farmers and Merchants Picnic. The two-day event at the War Memorial Park takes place Friday and Saturday, Aug. 9-10.
