The Sunday before Easter is a Christian celebration. It’s Palm Sunday.

Ken Collins photographed portions of the service at First United Methodist Church, Ada. His photos tell a story that don’t need words as this celebration was a universal event in churches across America.

First United Methodist announces Easter week schedule

First United Methodist Church of Ada announced its Easter week schedule of services.

• March 24  - Maundy Thursday Service, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.,
This year Holy Communion will be available for the 12 hours of Maundy Thursday - persons are invited to come as the Holy Spirit leads - a guided meditation will be available and Pastor Mary Jo will be present in the sanctuary.

 • March 25 - Good Friday Service, 7 p.m.
at Sugar Grove United Methodist 4945 St Rt 81, Ada.

 • March 27 - SonRise (youth led) at 8 a.m.
Breakfast serving at  8:45 a.m.
Easter celebration at 10 a.m.

 

ONU Gospel Ensemble performs Sunday at Sugar Grove UMC

The Ohio Northern University Gospel Ensemble will provide their message through music Sunday, Feb. 7, at Sugar Grove United Methodist Church during the 10:30 a.m. worship service.   

A soup and sandwich luncheon will follow the worship service. The community is invited.

The ONU Gospel Ensemble sings contemporary gospel music, often sung a cappella in the African-American gospel music tradition. 

The primary purpose of the ensemble is to spread the Word of God through song.  Their motto is “Winning souls to Christ with a melody!”   

The ensemble is directed by Adriane Thompson Bradshaw, ONU’s Vice President for Student Affairs.

Bethel Church of Christ seeks volunteers for ABC food packing event Jan. 30

An ABC (All Because of Christ) food packing event will be hosted at Ada school on Saturday, Jan. 30, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., sponsored by Lifeline Christian Mission and Bethel Church of Christ. 

Volunteers are needed to help package 7,000 macaroni and cheese meals for the Ada Food Pantry and 35,000 rice-based meals for the country of Haiti. It is estimated that 140 people will be able to accomplish this task in four hours.

There will be two shifts from 10 a.m to noon and from noon to 2 p.m. Volunteers are welcome for one or both shifts and families are encouraged to participate. Donations are also welcome.

Dec. 30 crockpot meal at First United Methodist

Ada First United Methodist will have a soup and sandwich meal, Wednesday, Dec. 30, from 4 til 6 p.m.

This is in place of crockpot meal at Restore while they are closed. The meal will be held in Wesley Fellowship Hall. The meal is open to all.

ReStore Dec. 23 meal at First United Methodist

First United Methodist Church, Ada, will host a ReStore community meal this week.

The meal is from 4 to 6 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 23, at the church. The meal includes soup and sandwiches and is open to the public.
