AHS boys basketball nips Tigers on late Conley basket

Team advances to title game vs. AE

WAYNESFIELD–The visiting Ada High School boys basketball team scored in the final seconds to edge tournament host Waynesfield-Goshen 51-50 in the semifinals of the fifth Border Battle tournament Thursday night.

The Bulldogs rallied from an eight-point deficit in the fourth quarter to lead 49-48.

Then Tiger junior guard Drew Breitigam scored on a drive in the final minute to give W-G the lead back, 50-49.

But Bulldog senior Carter Conley answered by making a layup for the last of his 26 points with 20 seconds remaining to pull out the victory.

AHS girls basketball falls to Mustangs in Border Battle semi

Allen East used tough defense and accurate shooting to defeat the Ada High School girls basketball team 63-25 in the semifinals of the Border Battle tournament on Wednesday night, December 28, in Waynesfield.

Talented AE improved to 8-2 with the convincing win, while overmatched Ada fell to 4-6 with the defeat.

"Allen East is more athletic and has more size," explained first-year Ada head coach Zach Ricker. "We gave up a lot of second chance points on offensive rebounds."

AHS swimmer Baumgartner sets 2 Holiday Invite records

Lady Bulldog swimmers 5th at Holiday Invite

LIMA--The Ada swim team finished 13th in the 29-team Bluffton Holiday Invitational meet Tuesday, December 27, at the Lima YMCA.

Ada sophomore Lily Baumgartner set a holiday meet record by winning the 100 butterfly. She broke the 12-year old meet record by .66. Baumgartner also broke the nine-year old meet record by 1.04 in winning the 100 backstroke amid a pool of 69 swimmers.

AHS swimmers 2nd at Bucyrus meet

The Ada High School swim team finished a strong second at the six-team Bucyrus Invitational Tuesday evening, December 20.

“We walked away with multiple best times and I’m very happy with second place,” said first-year Bulldog swim coach Ashley Robey. 

Ada sophomore Lily Baumgartner won the 200 individual medley and 500 freestyle races to lead the Bulldogs.

Senior Carlie Oldfield won the 200 free, and took second in the 100 backstroke.

Senior Kaitlyn Bowden finished second in the 100 butterfly and third in the 100 backstroke.

AHS wrestlers win tri-match

Competing at home, the Ada High School boys wrestling team swept a three-team match with McComb and Bath Tuesday evening, December 20.

Ada beat McComb 54-12 and edged Bath 43-42 in a tiebreaker after Landon Simon won a clutch bout by pin in the final match to tie it up, 36-36.

After the Simon comeback win, the last two bouts were forfeited, with one win for each team. Ada won the dual team outcome via the tiebreaker criterion for having forfeited fewer matches.  

"It is always fun to wrestle at home and have more family and friends able to attend," said Ada coach Eric Perkins. "It really does change the energy level.

Simon rallied to win by pin in the last contested match vs. Bath with strong encouragement from the team and crowd.

Spring soccer registration takes place in January

The Ada Soccer Association has announced that registration will be open from Registration will be open from January 1-February 1, 2023.

Team age groups are U6-U15. Fees are different per age group. For the U6 group, fees include a jersey. For U8-U15, players must have a jersey, which can be purchased for $25.
