Recovered from illness, team returns to competition

LIMA--The Ada High School swim team finished a solid fourth at the nine-team Lima Senior Invitational behind some winning individual finishes Saturday, December 27.

“Saturday’s meet was definitely a learning experience,” said first-year Ada swim coach Ashley Robey. “We got a late start to the meet and ended up with only 10 minutes of warm up time instead of 20. Then there were issues with the starters and technical difficulties with the operating systems.

ELGIN - The Ada High School boys wrestling team finished 10th out of 17 teams at the Elgin Pool tournament Saturday, December 17.

Bulldog freshman Silas Riblet finished second in the six-man 106 lbs. bracket. He went 4-1 with four pins on the day. Riblet lost to fellow freshman Jacob Courington of Whitmer by pin in the de facto bracket title match.

Ada junior Clayton McClain went 3-1 at 150 lbs. to finish fifth in his weight bracket. He was 1-1 in pool play with a pin. In the ensuing tournament, he won decisions of 8-3 and 5-2 to come in fifth out of 10 wrestlers in the bracket.

AHS boys basketball bounces back, beats Cory

The host Ada boys basketball team ran off 19 unanswered points in the first half, then held off spunky local rival Cory-Rawson to win 44-34 in a non-conference bout Saturday night.

The Bulldogs built a 20-point lead late in the second quarter, but had to stave off a late charge by the pressing Hornets to end a three-game losing skid.

Ada improved to 4-3 after the win, while Cory fell to 4-4 with the defeat.

AHS boys blasted by Bluffton 3's

Plagued by illness, the host Ada High School boys basketball team fell victim to a three-point onslaught as defending league champion Bluffton rolled to a 92-45 victory in Northwest Conference action Friday night, December 16.

Red-hot Bluffton fired in nine first half three-point goals, and ended up hitting a dozen treys. Senior guard Carson Soper drained four triples and added a conventional three-point play in the first half as he tallied 21 points in the first 16 minutes.

AHS girls basketball falls to late Pirate run

BLUFFTON - The visiting Ada High School girls basketball team hung close to rival Bluffton for over three quarters in a Northwest Conference battle before succumbing 55-43 Thursday night, December 15.

The Lady Bulldogs trailed just 36-35 heading into the fourth period. But the Pirate girls hit eight free throws and outscored Ada 19-8 in the fourth quarter to win by 12.

The Bulldog girls fell to 4-5 overall and 0-3 in the NWC with the tough defeat. The Pirate girls improved to 5-2 and 1-1 in the NWC with the hard-fought win that snapped a two-game losing skid.

Women's basketball nears top 25 in Week 3 poll

The Ohio Northern women's basketball team sits just outside the top 25 of the Week 3 D3hoops.com Top 25 Poll.

The Polar Bears (7-1 overall, 3-0 OAC) received 38 points and are listed first among teams in the "others receiving votes" category, putting them at No. 26 in the poll.

Northern received 26 points in last week's poll and was listed second among teams in the "others receiving votes" category.

Hope (Mich.) is the top-ranked team in the poll, receiving 615 points and 20 of 25 first-place votes.

The D3hoops.com Top 25 is voted on by a panel of 25 coaches, sports information directors and media members from across the country and is published weekly.
