Ada schools move to remote learning on Monday

All athletic practices from Oct. 30, through Nov. 1, are cancelled

Ada schools will move to remote learning beginning Monday, Nov. 2, according to Meri Skilliter, superintendent.

The announcement was made today (Oct. 30) on the school website. The message to the Ada community follows:

"With our number of Covid 19 positive cases growing, and all of the quarantined students and staff we have as a result of those positive cases, we have come to the decision that it is time for Ada Schools to switch to Remote Learning.

"Because there are only three weeks and a day between now and Thanksgiving, we will be starting remote learning beginning Monday, Nov. 2 through Nov. 23.

That means several things in Ada, including a Saturday night of one extra hour of sleep. It also means that the Ada elementary school book fair will take place as will parent-teacher conferences, a blood drive, leaf pick-up and Thanksgiving.

Attached to this story is the November list of Ada Icon’s Hometown Happenings. This list includes events from:
• Community
• Ada schools
• Ohio Northern University
• The Freed Center
• The Inn at ONU
• Public meetings

Darlene Bowers collects items for this monthly list. A printer-friendly copy is attached at the bottom of this story.

Turn your clocks back Saturday night

The Icons remind viewers that Daylight Saving Time (DST) ends this weekend.

On Saturday night before going to bed, turn your clocks back one hour. The next time change is in early March 2021.

A trick-or-treat word of caution

From the Ohio Department of Health

The Ohio Department of Health offers caution during tonight’s local public trick-or-treating.

General guidance
Consider the people in your household who may be at greater risk of complications if COVID-19 is brought into the home, such as those with certain health conditions, women who are pregnant, or older family members.

For parents
• If taking your children trick-or-treating, limit the number of houses you visit and ask your children to stay as far from treat-givers as possible. For small children, consider holding the bag for them.

Icon corrects local polling location error

Ada north and south precincts vote at Ada schools; Liberty precinct votes at Center on Central

The Icon corrects an error in an earlier story that listed area polling locations.

The correct voting locations follow:
Ada north and south precinct - at Ada school 1986 gym
Liberty precinct - at Center on Central, downtown Ada

In August it was announced by the board of elections that Ada north and south polling location would move from Community Health Professionals to 1986 Ada school gym.

The move for Ada village voters, according to the board, is due to a state directive: "It has been determined that polling locations are not to be located in a health facility of any sort.”
