Holiday lights go up in depot park on Dec. 4

But, Merry on Main events cancelled

Ada Area Chamber of Commerce announced this week that due to covid-19 numbers increased, Merry on Main will not take place, announced Heather Cox, chamber board president.

“We will cancel the A Merry Amazing Scavenger Hunt on Main and the tables set up by businesses on Main Street that were scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 5,” she said.

“However, we are going really light up the Ada Depot Park and we encourage downtown business to do the same.” 

Cox said that the chamber will light up the Ada Depot park on Friday, Dec. 4. Volunteers are invited to participate in the set up.

Downtown Ada treasure hunt for girls interested in Girl Scouting

Saturday, Nov. 14, involving several businesses

A downtown clue hunt is in store for girls interested in Girl Scouting in Ada on Saturday, Nov. 14. 

Headquartered at the Ada railroad park, the event is slated for noon to 3 p.m.

• The Mercantile on Main 
• 3 Brothers Pizza
•  Beatitudes
• and others joining the list soon are among participants.

Ada parent-teacher conferences go "Zoom"

Sign-up underway now for Nov. 23-34 talks with teachers

Ada parent-teacher conferences will be held virtually through Zoom this year, according to Ada school website.

This includes all Kindergarten through high school senior students who are on campus and online.

To sign up for a conference time with your child's teacher, click the link provided below. Links were also emailed to homes through FinalForms.

Parent-teacher conferences are:
•  Monday, Nov. 23, from 4-8:30 p.m.
• Tuesday, Nov. 24, from 10 a.m. - 8 p.m.

The only day for school the week of Nov. 23-27 will be Monday, Nov. 23.

Holiday raffle underway at Beatitudes

It's Beatitudes's Christmas kick off.

The downtown Ada shop announces its holiday raffle and tickets are now on sale at $1 for one or $5 for six. Many business donations are coming into the store as part of the prizes.

Watch the Icon for a list of prizes announced soon.

Winners will be notified on Friday, Nov., 20, according to Deb Curlis. She added that Christmas decorative items are also now available at the store.

You live in the 79th safest small town in America

According to SafeWise ranking based on crime and safety trends

The Village of Ada was recently named 79th Safest Small Town in America by SafeWise, an organization that contextualizes national crime and safety trends to show how they affect people and their neighborhoods. 

Michael Harnishfeger, Ada police chief, said, “It is our belief that the partnership between law enforcement and those we serve is key to creating a safe community.”

In 2002, the Ada Police Department invented and implemented Project S.A.F.E.R. (Seeking Aid From Every Resident). Harnishfeger said that the relationships forged through this program is invaluable in keeping Ada a SAFER Community.
