Agnes Crates blows out 100 candles!

Three hundred people were on hand Sunday afternoon to wish Agnes Crates a happy 100th birthday at a celebration at the Ada VFW. 

Relatives and guests came from far and wide to congratulate one of their favorite persons on her long and wonderful life as well as give and receive a hug and kiss from the honored guest.

Agnes was born on Sept. 23, 1913 in Forest, Ohio.  She married Ralph Crates when she was almost 17 and they moved to his home in Ada.  While Ralph died in 1948, Agnes continues to live in the same home 83 years later.

When did you graduate from Ada High School?
I was in the class of 2004.

What did you participate in during your years at Ada?
I was in cheerleading, show choir, band, where I played the flute, and in drama club.

Tell me about what you remember from Kindergarten.
(Long pause). Mrs. Shull was my teacher. That’s about it.

You lived in the country? Who was your bus driver?
Mrs. Dearth.

Ada HS band places at Revere Competition

The Ada High School Marching Band traveled to northeast Ohio last Saturday and competed in the Revere High School Marching Band Invitational, hosted by the Revere Marching Minutemen. This was Revere's 8th annual marching band competition and the second year in a row Ada has attended this well-run and competitive event. Revere High School is located in Richfield, Ohio, near Cleveland.

Linda Armstrong named branch manager of U.S. Bank, Ada

Linda Armstrong is the new branch manager of Ada's U.S. Bank, 528 S. Main St. The Findlay native assumed the position in mid-August.

She has 20 years of managerial experience and 10 years in auditing and banking experience. Armstrong is a University of Findlay graduate with a degree in business and accounting.

Armstrong is active in several civic and non-profit organizations. She had served as vice president of the Seneca County Habitat for Humanity.

"I'm looking forward to becoming involved in the Ada community," said Armstrong. "Ada has a great small town feel and it's really nice to be here."

Scott Allison gives Kiwanis members the inside details of how to put on a harvest and herb festival

President Myrna McCurdy called the weekly meeting of the Ada Kiwanis Club at 12 noon on Tuesday September 17, at McIntosh Center, Ohio Northern University.

Jon Umphress offered the invocation.

Elizabeth McKinney, vice-president ONU Circle, K was welcomed as a guest.

The birthdays of Charles Van Dyne, David MacDonald and Marilyn Green were noted.

The membership anniversary of Harold Friesner (September 21, 2007) was also noted.

The wedding anniversary of Joe and Linda Ferguson (September 23, 1972)-41 years was also noted.

Members were asked to keep Mark Light and Al Baillis in our prayers.
