Show choir performances dazzle Music Feasts guests

Show choirs from 15 high schools competed on Nov. 9 at the 36th annual Ada Music Feast Show Choir Invitational Competition.

Approximately 3,000 people attended the event, which was hosted by the faculty, staff and students of Ada High School, along with the parents, volunteers, and officers of the Ada Music Boosters.

The show choirs, representing schools of various sizes from Ohio, West Virginia, and Indiana, performed throughout the day in hopes of qualifying for the evening “finals competition.”

Adjudicators evaluated each choir’s performance in the following categories: vocal, instrumental, and choreography. Additionally, one top performer from each choir was recognized for outstanding performance.

This award is based on the school having the highest amount of money collected in their jar. All proceeds from the People’s Choice Award went to The Ronald R. McVicker Scholarship Fund at Ada High School.

McVicker was the band director at Ada Schools for many years. He retired in 2003 after 31 years of teaching instrumental music. With his untimely death, the family decided to sponsor the People’s Choice Award trophy at Music Feast each year. The 2013 Ada Music Feast People’s Choice Award was awarded to Mayfield.

The overall award for best stage crew (sponsored by Don & Amy Spar and Family) was presented to Grove City’s “Touch of Class”. The best overall award for female and male soloists (sponsored by Liberty National Bank) was presented to Allison Vance of the Hurricane “Red Hot” and Markus Rask of the Lebanon “Singers”, respectively. Finally, the best overall award for show concept (sponsored by Quest Federal Credit Union) was presented to Twinsburg’s Great Expectations.
