ONU to welcome incoming freshmen with a series of activities

Ohio Northern University kicks off the 2013-14 academic year with the traditional move-in day for incoming freshmen and new students on Thursday, Aug. 22. Classes begin on Aug. 26.

When ONU’s residence halls open at 8 a.m. on Thursday, incoming and returning students can begin the process of moving in with the support of the campus community. More than 600 freshmen are expected to arrive on campus this school year.

Former ONU president featured in ‘West Point Leadership: Profiles of Courage’

Dr. DeBow Freed, president emeritus of Ohio Northern University, is featured in the new book “West Point Leadership: Profiles of Courage,” which lauds his public service career.

The book covers Freed’s 23 years of active military duty, five years as a college dean, and 32 years as a president of two colleges and universities while noting his lifetime of service to the nation.

ONU presents Aug. 27 forum "The heart of a teacher"

Ohio Northern University’s Department of Education and the Center for Teacher Education will present “The Heart of a Teacher” in the forum of James F. Dicke Hall on Tuesday, Aug. 27 at 7 p.m. The event is free and open to the public, and a reception will follow in the atrium of Dicke Hall.
Guest speakers Stephanie Carr, a 2005 ONU graduate, and Joe Virant, a 2003 ONU graduate, will speak on their personal experiences and focus on “taking a hand, opening a mind and touching a heart.” The purpose of the event is to engage and inspire prospective students, teacher candidates, local educators and ONU faculty.

ONU exercise physiology program re-accredited by CAAHEP

The Ohio Northern University exercise physiology program has been re-accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP).

ONU is one of only 37 undergraduate exercise science programs in the nation and one of only three programs in Ohio to be accredited by CAAHEP. ONU is one of the few traditional undergraduate institutions without a graduate program in exercise physiology to receive this honor and the only private, liberal arts institution in Ohio to receive this accreditation.

ONU will install field turf in Dial-Roberson Stadium, ONU Track and Field Complex

Ohio Northern University's Dial-Roberson Stadium and the infield of the track complex, located adjacent to the football facility, will both receive artificial turf for the upcoming 2013-14 season.

"The addition of turf at Ohio Northern University will help strengthen and add greater facility depth and flexibility to our athletic programs as well as provide more opportunities for all of our students," said Daniel A. DiBiasio, president of Ohio Northern University. "Ohio Northern's athletic programs are a regional and national power, and with this addition we will be able to enhance soccer, football, and track and field."

ONU ranks third in return on investment among schools in Ohio

Ohio Northern University is ranked third among the top schools in the state of Ohio for its students’ greatest lifetime return on investment (ROI) according to “Affordable College Online: Highest Return on Investment Colleges in Ohio” ranking. ROI is a function of two things: how much students spend to earn a degree, and how much graduates earn.
