ONU's Student Safety Week to focus on personal safety, dating and human trafficking

Ohio Northern University will begin its third annual Student Safety Week, featuring a number of activities, on Sept. 9.

Sponsored by the ONU Security Office, in partnership with the ONU Student Senate, the ONU Panhellenic Council, the ONU Interfraternity Council and the ONU Student Planning Committee, the event will touch on subjects such as personal safety, dating violence and human trafficking.

ONU featured in The Princeton Review’s ‘The Best 378 Colleges: 2014 Edition’

Ohio Northern University is once again featured as one of the nation’s top schools in The Princeton Review’s annual college guide, “The Best 378 Colleges: 2014 Edition.” ONU also is one of the 153 institutions that The Princeton Review recommends in the “Best of the Midwest” section of its website feature, “2014 Best Colleges by Region.”

“We are pleased that this student survey again places ONU among the best universities in the country,” said Dr. Daniel A. DiBiasio, Ohio Northern University president. “This is reflective of the quality of our programs and personnel and the appreciation our students have for excellence.”

ONU to hold second annual Ada Civic Engagement Day

To continue the positive partnership with Ohio Northern University and the village of Ada, ONU is conducting the second annual Ada Civic Engagement (ACE) Day on Saturday, Aug. 24, from 10 a.m. to noon.

The ACE initiative was introduced not only to provide an opportunity for ONU’s faculty, staff and first-year students to engage with the residents of Ada but also to contribute to the beautification of the village.

ONU to welcome incoming freshmen with a series of activities

Ohio Northern University kicks off the 2013-14 academic year with the traditional move-in day for incoming freshmen and new students on Thursday, Aug. 22. Classes begin on Aug. 26.

When ONU’s residence halls open at 8 a.m. on Thursday, incoming and returning students can begin the process of moving in with the support of the campus community. More than 600 freshmen are expected to arrive on campus this school year.

Former ONU president featured in ‘West Point Leadership: Profiles of Courage’

Dr. DeBow Freed, president emeritus of Ohio Northern University, is featured in the new book “West Point Leadership: Profiles of Courage,” which lauds his public service career.

The book covers Freed’s 23 years of active military duty, five years as a college dean, and 32 years as a president of two colleges and universities while noting his lifetime of service to the nation.

ONU presents Aug. 27 forum "The heart of a teacher"

Ohio Northern University’s Department of Education and the Center for Teacher Education will present “The Heart of a Teacher” in the forum of James F. Dicke Hall on Tuesday, Aug. 27 at 7 p.m. The event is free and open to the public, and a reception will follow in the atrium of Dicke Hall.
Guest speakers Stephanie Carr, a 2005 ONU graduate, and Joe Virant, a 2003 ONU graduate, will speak on their personal experiences and focus on “taking a hand, opening a mind and touching a heart.” The purpose of the event is to engage and inspire prospective students, teacher candidates, local educators and ONU faculty.
