Big Wildcat 6th inning downs Bulldog boys

Playing at home, the Ada baseball team gave up 10 sixth-inning runs and lost 16-2 to visiting Delphos Jefferson in a Northwest Conference bout Thursday on the warm, sunny evening of April 21.

Ada fell to 4-7 overall and 0-4 in the NWC with the six-inning loss. Meanwhile, DJ improved to 4-6 overall and 2-1 in the NWC with the win.

Colin Bailey pitched a six-inning complete game and struck out eight Bulldogs. He allowed just three hits, and also aided his own cause at the plate with three hits and three runs batted in.

Ada girls cage Jeff-Cats for 1st NWC win

Playing at home, the Ada High School varsity softball team decisively defeated Northwest Conference foe Delphos Jefferson 9-3 to earn their first league win on a sunny Thursday evening, April 21, at War Memorial Park.

The Ada girls improved to 3-8 overall and 1-3 in the NWC after the victory. DJ fell to 3-7 and 1-2 in NWC play with the defeat. 

"The fourth was the big inning," said Ada first-year head coach Jeff Bassitt. "We started out strong.

"It was a big win for us," he added. "We needed to play a complete game."   

Ed Henning coached at Harding High School

Coach Ed Henning, age 73 of Marion, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his family on Tuesday, April 19, 2022.

Ed was born on November 2, 1948 in Celina, the son of Edwin Roy and Bernice Irene (Boice) Henning. He graduated from St. Marys Memorial High School where he lettered in football. He received his Bachelor of Education from Findlay College and Master’s Degree from Ashland University.

It was at the Beer Barrel in Ottawa where Ed met his soulmate and future wife, Jo Ann Krieger. The couple married on May 20, 1972 and have cherished nearly 50 years of marriage.

The April 21 meeting of the Ada Exempted Village Schools Board of Education was called to order at 6 p.m. in the board chambers at 725 W. North Ave. and chaired by board president, Dr. Amy Mullins.

The meeting included a brief confidential executive session to consider employment or employee matters.
