VITA tax preparation program provided by ONU

UPDATED with additional information - Appointments offered February 21-March 30

By Paula Scott

Call 419-772-2075 to schedule an appointment

Ada Area Chamber of Commerce members learned about a free tax preparation opportunity for filers with income under $60,000, the ONU Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program. Interns Tyler Calhoun and Becca Marxsman provided attendees at the February 15 chamber meeting with an overview of the program.

Working with site coordinator Dr. Dexter Woods, five interns serve as the leaders of a group of more than thirty students who assist individuals with their taxes. Each year these volunteers help prepare federal, state, and school district returns for between 250-300 clients including retirees, students and international residents from Ada and surrounding communities.

The student tax preparers are trained to use tax preparation software and are IRS-certified to help prepare basic and intermediate tax returns. The internship fulfills a requirement for graduation from the Dicke College of Business Administration.

Appointments will be offered February 21 through March 30. Hours are 5:00 p.m.-9:00 p.m. on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. To make an appointment, call 419-772-2075.

Monthly presentations by ONU student groups are planned for future chamber meetings.
