Master Gardeners host summer garden programs on July 19, August 16

HARDIN CO. – The Hardin County OSU Extension Master Gardener Volunteers are hosting two summer garden programs at the Friendship Gardens of Hardin County located at 960 W. Kohler Street in Kenton.

  • I can eat THAT??!! - July 19, 6:30 p.m.
  • Growing Cucurbits - August 16, 6:30 p.m.

On ACE Day, new ONU students help beautify Ada

Site registration deadline is August 1

Ohio Northern University is currently registering organizations, businesses and residents for its annual Ada Community Engagement (ACE) Day to be held on Saturday, Aug. 20, from 9 a.m. to noon.

A partnership with the Village of Ada, the ACE Day program provides opportunities for ONU’s first-year students to not only engage with the community but also contribute to the village's beautification. Students will take part in one-hour shifts (9:30-10:30 a.m) or two-hour shifts (9:30-11:30
a.m.).

60s Survivors Band plays at VFW on July 16

From 7:00-10:00 p.m.on Saturday, July 16, The '60s Survivors Band will perform at the Ream-McElroy VFW Post 9381, located at 2147 OH-235.

There is a $5.00 cover charge for non-members. The band will play outside on the patio, if the weather cooperates.

Ada Historical Society meets July 20 and August 17

The Ada Historical Society has scheduled the following meetings for July and August at the Ada Public Library, 320 N. Main St.:

- Wednesday, July 20 at 7:00 p.m.

- Wednsday, August 17 at 7:00 p.m.

The board will meet in advance of these meetings, beginning at 6:30 p.m.

Ada's Aug. 27 Punt, Pass and Kick one of 41 U.S. competitions

The August 27 Punt, Pass and Kick competition hosted by the Ada Area Chamber of Commers as part of the Made in Ada Wilson Football Festival is one of 41 competitions sanctioned by PPKUSA

  • 11:30 a.m. - Registration opens
  • 1:00 p.m. - Competition begins

The cost to participate? The competition is free and open to children ages 6-15. Participants compete in punt, pass and kick skills in the following age groups:

Hardin County Astronomy Club hosts viewing event for James Webb Space Telescope

The Hardin County Astronomy Club is hosting a "First Light" viewing event on Tuesday, July 12 to celebrate that day’s unveiling of the first images captured by the James Webb Space Telescope.

The event begins at 5:00 p.m. in the Veterans Meeting Hall at the courthouse in Kenton, and all are welcome to attend.

The telescope was launched in December last year and spent 30-days traveling to its permanent observing location, approximately one million miles from Earth. NASA's Webb Telescope team has spent the past several months running tests and calibrating the telescope's instrumentation.
