Nashville band "Mustang Sally," performs Friday night

The band,  Mustang Sally, from Nashville, Tenn., will perform from 8 to 11 p.m. at the Farmers and Merchants Picnic on Friday at what is known as the Back 40. Look for a large, white tent on the north east side of War Memorial Park to find the performance site. Gates open at 7 p.m. Admission is $10 (kids under 12 free). Dr. Christopher Spiese among presenters at Aug. 26 Hardin County Field Day

‘Agricultural Conservation, Protecting Water: Keeping Soil and Nutrients in the Field’ will be the theme of the Hardin County Field Day on Friday, Aug. 26.  

This is the second year for this field day, cooperatively sponsored by the following partners: The Nature Conservancy, John Deere, Findlay Implement, Chris Kurt, Randy Boose, OSU Extension, Hardin and Putnam Soil and Water Conservation Districts, Ohio Farm Bureau/Blanchard River Demonstration Farms Network, Ohio Department of Agriculture and USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service.

Harvest and Herb entertainment line up set

There will be lots of musical entertainment at this year’s Ada Harvest and Herb Festival. The 30th annual festival, sponsored by the Ada Area Chamber of Commerce, is Saturday, Sept. 17, on Ada’s Main Street.

According to Deb Curlis, this year’s entertainment takes place at the Cole Motors Main Street parking lot as in past years.

What is that bug in my garden? Answer provided at county crop walk

• Why do my plants have brown spots on the leaves? 
• Why are my tomatoes cracking after they looked good? 

Hardin County OSU Extension is sponsoring a fruit and vegetable Crop Walk program on Tuesday, Aug. 9 from 6-8 p.m.  The program will include an emphasis on fruit and vegetable production. The location of the program is 15460 County Road 209, Kenton.

OSU Extension Horticulturist Jim Jasinski will be giving recommendations for pumpkins, squash, cucumbers, and melons.  He will also provide information on managing insect pests that infest produce.

Beaverdam summerfest Aug. 13 - lots of raffle prizes

Beaverdam-Richland Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department hosts its annual summerfest Saturday, Aug. 13.

Events begin at 4 p.m. and go into the evening. Summerfest had homemade food and ice cream, kids bouncy rides plus a game trailer.

The band, Exploit, performs at 7 p.m.

At 9 p.m. will be drawings for several prizes

• First prize  - 24-inch show thrower
• Second prize – Kids’ battery vehicle
• Third prize – Rodabaugh Brothers meat certificate
• Fourth prize – Wooden bench swing
• Fifth prize – Fire ring
• Sixth prize – FitBit
• Seventh prize – Home safety kit
