Calling all girls interested in becoming an Ada Girl Scout

You can reach for the stars on Thursday evening

Weather permitting, Ada area girls “and their favorite adult” are invited to a “Reach for the Stars” evening at the Ada elementary school cafeteria from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 31.

The evening’s theme is being a space science explorer.

The program is by the Girl Scouts of Western Ohio. The event is for girls who are not currently participating in Girl Scouts this year.

Here’s what’s in store during the evening:
• create moon phases with cookies
• make a shadow poster
• make a star pattern of your own – in the shape of you

Hardin livestock organization banquets set

Mark Badertscher of the Hardin County OSU Extension office announced this year’s Hardin County livestock organization banquets: 

Dairy banquet and horse banquet, Saturday, Feb. 23. The dairy banquet is at the Plaza Inn Restaurant, Mt. Victory, at noon.  The horse banquet is at the Kenton Moose Lodge at 6:30 p.m.

Lamb banquet, Saturday, March 2, at St. John’s Evangelical Church, Kenton, at 6:30 p.m.

Pork banquet, Saturday, March 9, at 6:30 p.m. at St. John’s Evangelical Church, Kenton.  

Poultry banquet, Saturday, March 16, at Christian Missionary Alliance Church, Kenton. 

Next craft and vendor show Feb. 9 at depot

A new year craft and vendor show will take place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 9, in the Ada Depot, 112 Central Ave.

February's book: “Balzac and the Little Chinese Seamstress"

Ada Public Library’s adult book discussion group’s focus in February is “Balzac and the Little Chinese Seamstress" by Dai Sijie (translated by Ina Rilke).

The book discussion, open to the public, is at 7 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 5, in the library. The monthly discussion group is open to new members and registration is requested.

Keynote speaker Michael Benitez to discuss diversity leadership 

During annual MLK celebration event at Ohio Northern University

Michael Benitez will be the keynote speaker for the annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 22, in the English Chapel at Ohio Northern University. The event is free and open to the public.

The theme of this year’s talk is “The time is always now: Upholding legacies of diversity leadership in 21st century America.”

25 years of dance celebrated

ONU choreographers’ showcase performance Feb. 2-3

The Department of Theatre Arts at Ohio Northern University will present the Choreographers’ Showcase Spring Dance Performance onSaturday and Sunday,  Feb. 2 and Feb. 3, in the Freed Center for the Performing Arts. Performance times are 7:30 p.m. on Feb. 2, and 2 p.m. on Feb. 3.

This concert will be a celebration of 25 years of dance performances at ONU. In honor of this special occasion, the Department of Theatre Arts has invited dance and theatre alumni to participate in the event.
