I am celebrating three years as the owner-editor of the Bluffton Icon and Ada Icon. Golly, how time flies.

Looking forward, I expect time will continue flying. So I’ve got a new bee in my bonnet: to improve how the Icon generates and reports news in Ada. The Icons have one employee, me, and a few “stringers.” And I don’t think that’s a sustainable business model.

My goals are to increase the Icons’ “bandwidth” while keeping the news free and the ads affordable by:

2024 Harvest and Herb Festival Queen Court announced

The Ada Area Chamber of Commerce has introduced the members of the 38th Annual Harvest and Herb Festival’s Queen Court.

Starting from the left, Victoria Rausch, Alexandra (Lexi) Poling, Contessa (Tessa) Griffith, Katelynn Metzger, Aidra Preston and Jillian Allison.

The Ada Harvest & Herb Festival Queen will be crowned in a 12:00 p.m. ceremony on September 21 at the historic train depot.

The chamber commented, "Thank you to all these amazing young women for participating."

Ada council meets September 17; refuse and utility rates on agenda

The Village of Ada Council will meet on Tuesday with this slate of agenda items.

Legislation includes a new resolution to accept the Bid of Neptune Equipment Company Inc. for the Village of Ada, Ohio Water Meter Replacement Project. Some 1,880 residential, commercial, and industrial water meters are included in this plan.

GRAPHIC Plastics recycling to expand November 1

Rumpke Waste & Recycling will add a new acceptable item for recycling—clamshell plastic containers starting November 1, 2024. At that time, residents can add clamshells to their recycling carts. This will include clear plastic carry-out containers; fruit, berry and lettuce containers and egg containers. For information on current guidelines, visit Rumpke HERE.

Bulldog boys soccer blanks Old Fort

OLD FORT __ The visiting Ada High School boys soccer team manhandled non-league foe Old Fort 6-0 Saturday afternoon, September 14.

The Bulldogs led the Stockaders 2-0 at the half, then poured it on with four more goals after intermission.

Ada improved to 6-3 overall with the road victory. Old Fort dropped to 0-5 after the defeat.

“We played a great game,” said Bulldog first-year head coach Aaron Acheson. “The defense earned a clean sheet. I am really proud of how they competed and won balls.
