Ada girls soccer take a loss in Bulldog battle

COLUMBUS GROVE __ The visiting Ada High School girls soccer team led unbeaten former league rival Columbus Grove at halftime, but ended up losing 4-1 on a warm Saturday, September 14.

The purple and gold dropped to 5-4 overall with the hard-fought defeat. 

Grove improved to 7-0-1 with the win. CG is tied atop the Northwest Conference standings with fellow traditional power Bluffton at 3-0.

Ada led 1-0 at the half, but Grove came back with four goals to win. CG netted three of those scores in the final 25 minutes to pull away late and win by a deceptively comfortable margin.

New Big Brothers Big Sisters office to open in Ada

Grand Opening Celebration at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, September 26, at 229 North Main St.

Big Brothers Big Sisters of West Central Ohio, Inc. will celebrate the grand opening of its new Hardin County office, located at 229 North Main St., Ada. The organization notes, “This new office marks an important step in the organization’s commitment to expanding its services and outreach across the region.”

Weekend Doctor: Helping those in recovery

My name is Alissa, and I am an addict and alcoholic in recovery. Today, I work as a peer recovery supporter, using my lived experience with addiction to help others find a path toward healing. When I was younger, I believed that people addicted to drugs could quit if they wanted to. That belief changed when I experienced addiction firsthand after a stillbirth at age 28. In my grief and trauma, I turned to drugs to cope.

Ohio issues school report cards for 2023-2024

On Friday, September 13, the State of Ohio issued report cards for school districts and schools for the 2023-2024 school year. Bulldog football defeats Elmwood Royals

BLOOMDALE __ Friday the 13th was not an unlucky day for the Ada High School football team, but it was for winless Elmwood. The Bulldogs ran away from the Royals in the second half to post a 43-14 win in their first Blanchard Valley Conference meeting Friday night.

Ada led 15-8 at the half, but rode a 21-point fourth period to win convincingly as they outscored the Royals 28-6 after intermission.

Chad Everett Goodin served in the U.S. Army

Chad Everett Goodin, age 47, of Alger, passed away on Thursday, September 12, 2024, from injuries incurred from a motorcycle accident. 

He was born on April 7, 1977 in Lima, Ohio to Dallas Goodin and Saundra (Pinks) McCracken. His father preceded him in death and his mother Saundra survives in Ada. On September 26, 2015 Chad married Darcy R. McDowell and she survives in Alger. 

Also surviving are his seven children: Troy Goodin, Ryley (Michael) Evans, Kyle Goodin, Bryce Tidd, Delno Tidd, Benjamin Tidd and Gracelyn Goodin; four grandchildren: Braxton, Milo, Link and Koda; and sister, Melissa Goodin.
