Ada girls soccer team will be Kickin it for Cancer

The Ada Schools invite all to join the Bulldog girls soccer team on October 5 for the Kickin It for Cancer benefit game.

The Bulldogs will take on the Kenton Wildcats.

Shirt order forms are due to the high school office by Friday, September 20. $5 from each T-shirt and $2 from each sweatshirt will go to Not By Choice to help those fighting cancer in Hardin County. 

There will also be other donation opportunities to support Not By Choice at the game. Organizers note, “We hope to see you all at the game to cheer on our Lady Bulldogs!”

Bulldog volleyball sweeps Royals

BLOOMDALE __ The visiting Ada High School volleyball team defeated Elmwood in straight sets in a Blanchard Valley Conference match Monday evening, September 16.

The Bulldogs improved to 6-5 overall and 2-2 in the BVC this season after the hard-fought 26-24, 25-20, 25-22 road victory. 

Elmwood fell to 3-9 overall and 1-2 in the BVC with the defeat.

Sophomore Brooklyn Andreasen drilled a season-high 10 kills and made one block.

Bulldog boys soccer defeats Bearcats

ADA __ The host Ada boys soccer team defeated Spencerville 3-1 in a warm non-conference match on Monday, September 16, at War Memorial Stadium.

Ada improved to 7-3 overall with the decisive victory. The former league rival Bearcats fell to 4-4-1 overall with the loss, and are 2-1 in NWC play.

“I am happy the boys are creating their own success,” said Bulldog first-year head coach Aaron Acheson. “We want to stay unified and continue getting better. I felt we took care of business tonight.

“Jude (Griffin) had a terrific game for us,” he continued. “He and Ty Mowery controlled things back there defensively.

Bulldog girls soccer shuts out Spartans

ADA __ The Ada High School girls soccer team got back on the winning track with a decisive 3-0 victory over visiting non-league foe Lima Senior Monday, September 16, at War Memorial Stadium.

The purple and gold improved to 6-4 overall with the convincing win.  

The Spartans fell to 4-4 after the loss.

Ada controlled ball possession throughout and had numerous good scoring chances that were saved or narrowly went awry. The Bulldogs pulled away with three second half goals to win comfortably.

Liberty Township asks for cemetery input at meetings

Liberty Township made the following announcement on Facebook on Sept. 16:

It has been brought to our attention some unhappy people regarding the cemetery’s through social media. If you have an issue or concern with any of the cemetery’s or township roads, please come to a meeting. Every 1st and 3rd Monday of the month at the township office. 110 E. Buckeye (beside Kenny the barber).

I am celebrating three years as the owner-editor of the Bluffton Icon and Ada Icon. Golly, how time flies.

Looking forward, I expect time will continue flying. So I’ve got a new bee in my bonnet: to improve how the Icon generates and reports news in Ada. The Icons have one employee, me, and a few “stringers.” And I don’t think that’s a sustainable business model.

My goals are to increase the Icons’ “bandwidth” while keeping the news free and the ads affordable by:
